But
wait! There's more! Along with those razor-sharp Ginsu knives,
you also get the Real
Gay program, the first ever "gay reality star
reunion". Real Gay is a Logo original and "features
gay and lesbian reality stars sharing their stories and describing
the experience of starring in top-rated reality shows."
Best of all, they did manage to snag James from Boy Meets
Boy. Or you can just tune in to FOX NFL Sunday and watch
grown men in tight pants pile on top of each other. Hmmmm....
PERHAPS
HE SHOULD JUST BE WORRIED ABOUT BEING TYPECAST AS BAD
Eric
McCormack recently said
he's worried that his stint on Will & Grace will
leave him typecast as gay. And the people in New Orleans thought
they have problems. Okay, I'm not being entirely fair. Eric
is an actor, and being typecast can be a very bad thing. Just
ask Bob Denver. (Oh, wait, you can't. Sadly, Gilligan died
this week.) To his credit, Eric is grabbing the bulls by the
horn (insert moronic Will & Grace double entendre
here) and is directing and starring in his own romantic comedy,
What You Wish For, from Disney. Well, what I wish
for is a gay sitcom role to someday be played by an actual
openly gay man.
If
you're already fretting about not having enough Eric in your
life after Will & Grace has a stake driven through its
heart, then check out Eric's discussion
board where other people with no lives spend their time.
AND
THEY KNOW POOR TASTE, AFTER ALL
The
New York Times reports
that WNYW/Channel 5, a FOX affiliate is refusing to air a
political ad
for Brian Ellner, a candidate for Manhattan borough president.
The ad, which features a naked man's middle-aged torso with
President Bush's face superimposed on it as a voice over says
"The Emperor has no clothes," apparently doesn't
meet the affiliate's standard for good taste. Or maybe it
wasn't the topless Bush that offended, but the fact that at
the end of the ad, the openly gay Ellner introduces his partner,
a political ad first. We can't know the reasons behind the
refusal for sure because a FOX spokes-whore refused to comment
on why they were breaking the law and denying Ellner his right
to free speech on the public airwaves. The spokes-whore, however,
probabaly did add that viewers should stay tuned for the
premiere of Pamela Lee Anderson's breasts on Stacked, as well
as a re-run of Who's Your Daddy, followed by The Swan.
AND
DON'T FORGET
This
Sunday night at 9 PM The Discovery Channel is showing The
Flight That Fought Back, which includes the story
of Mark Bingham, the openly gay man from San Francisco who
was one of the leaders of the passengers.
A
KISS IS JUST A KISS UNLESS....
Here
is a nice little article from this week's San Francisco Chronicle
about boy-on-boy smooching in the movies. It provides a nice
summation of the cinematic history of same-sex kisses, a little
analysis about the topic, and finishes up with some optimistic
thoughts about where the popular culture now stands on the
once shocking subject. I especially liked Heath Ledger's take
on his experience with Brokeback
Mountain: "Aren't we at the stage these days
when it just doesn't ... matter? It's a story of love and
it's a story between two people. If people can't get over
that and just accept it as a story, then that's their problem.
I'm big enough and brave enough to do it." Good on'ya,
Heath! I recently saw the trailer
for the flick and that alone made me bawl like a baby. Aw,
geeze...
