BROKEBACK GOLDEN, HEATH NOT SO MUCH
Sunday night brought us the Golden Globes, and all of us who had our little gay fingers crossed for good luck felt pretty darned happy come the end of the night. Brokeback Mountain won Best Drama, Ang Lee won Best Director, Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana won Best Screenplay, and Brokeback also won for Best Song. Sadly, neither Heath Ledger won for Best Actor in a drama, nor did Michelle Williams win Best Supporting Actress.

Philip Seymour Hoffman took the Best Actor while Felicity Huffman also scored for Best Actress in a drama for Transamerica. Frankly, the awards couldn’t have been more gay had Tom Cruise and Ricky Martin made out right there on stage. Not that either would necessarily have any interest in doing that, mind you.

Brokeback Mountain is now the clear frontrunner to win the Oscar for Best Picture, as is Ang for directing and Diana and Larry for their screenplay. Hoffman, meanwhile, has to be considered the frontrunner for the Best Actor award, but I’m not giving up hope for Heath yet.

WE’RE NUMBER ONE! WE’RE NUMBER ONE!
On the Tuesday after the Golden Globes, Brokeback Mountain was the nation's number one movie! And I don't mean number one in per screen average--I mean number one, period! I predict a very good weekend at the box office, especially since the number of screens showing Brokeback doubles to more than 1200. Meanwhile, the soundtrack is currently Amazon's best-selling CD. Poor winguts! This must stick in the craw something fierce. Bwa-ha-ha.

Of course, they’re not taking it sitting down. The day after the Globes aired, the wingnuts were in full blather mode. The Australian has an article detailing their nonsense. To nutshell it for you: blahblah, we’re bigots, blahblah, intolerant homophobes, blahblah, the world will be better when we’re gone, blahblahblah, we’re a bunch of wankers.

THEN MAKE YOUR OWN F!@$ING MOVIE!
Larry King had R. Albert Mohler Jr. (the “R” stands for repugnant), president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, on his show this week to discuss Brokeback Mountain. Lord, but I’m sick of these wingnuts ripping into a movie that they can’t even bother to see. Mohler droned on about what he found lacking in the movie, namely that it didn’t tell queers what a bunch of damned sinners we are. Gosh, Albert, my beef with The Passion of the Christ was that it didn’t have Jesus condemning bloviating, judgmental bigots like you. But it was sure was bloody, sadistic, and violent!

THE POTENTIAL “ICK” FACTOR IS HIGHER THAN GREG AND MRS. BRADY
That 70’s Show, apparently suffering from a case of Will and Grace-itis, has filmed an episode with Barry Williams and Christopher Knight, better known as Greg and Peter Brady. In the episode, set to air in April, Barry and Christopher play a gay couple who move next door to Topher Grace’s family. Word has it that the two even share a kiss. But when Barry’s character wants to move to the country and set up a sheep ranch, Christopher’s character refuses and moves out. The episode ends on a touching note as Barry clutches Christopher’s sweaty socks to his face and weeps.
