Best. Gay. Week. Ever.
by Michael Jensen
Friday, October 20, 2006 (page 3) FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE Andrew seemed unbelievably sympathetic toward to Bree over on Desperate Housewives last Sunday night. Either it's the biggest character turnaround in the show's history or Andrew is up to something. I vote for up to something. Project Runway ended, but Top Chef debuted. The openly gay Carlos Fernandez didn't get eliminated, but nor did he exactly cover himself with glory. Read our hilarious recap of the first episode here. Brad survived another week on Survivor, and Jackie Warner announced on her blog that Work Out, her reality series is coming back for another season. If you'd like to read a little more about Project Runway, our friend The Gayest Editor Ever over at AOL's Worth Repeating blog has followed it all pretty closely. I mentioned last week I couldn't stomach anymore of Freak Show, but Drawn Together was laugh out-loud hilarious. Okay, it was horrifying as well, but mostly hilarious involving a kid's show that would make the world gay, the Terminator, and a “Wiener-Mobile”. Trust me, it was funny.
Check out Representative Barney Frank on tonight's episode of Bill Maher on HBO's Politically Incorrect. No doubt, the sharp-tongued congressman will have plenty to say about Mark Foley and the Republican party in general. If you're lucky enough to be in the UK on Sunday night, you get to watch the premiere of Torchwood, the Doctor Who spin-off that features the openly gay John Barrowman playing the bisexual Captain Jack. Gosh, I wonder when one of the American networks will be grabbing the rights to remake that? Next Tuesday Bravo airs a new stand-up comedy special with the always gay-friendly Joan Rivers. Despite getting glowing reviews, Infamous absolutely tanked at the box office. Looks like Warner Pictures goofed in holding it back for a year. Releasing it last year would've meant going up against Capote, but the reviews for Infamous make it seem like it would've had a fighting chance. It'll probably be out on DVD next month. Running with Scissors opens in limited release today and wide release next week. Check out our review here. Not much on DVD either I'm afraid. Just Jailbait, a harrowing prison drama. Aren't they all? I did want to mention I finally got to see Kinky Boots, the latest feel-good British comedy in the vein of The Full Monty or Saving Grace. While Kinky Boots doesn't break any new ground, it was a fun, sweet movie and I can think of a lot worse ways to spend a cold winter evening. And if you happen to be in New York or headed there soon, Nathan Lane stars in the revival of Butley opening on October 25th. Lane plays a second rate university professor whose life is on the skids. Not only is his wife leaving him, but so has his boyfriend. Whatever happened to fidelity, eh? It's a comedy, but the black sort, not the feel good. Speaking of New York, I'll be there all next week. Say hi if you see me walking down the street. I'll wear a red scarf so it'll be easier to recognize me. Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER! That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here. |
