Best. Gay. Week. Ever.
by Michael Jensen
Friday, November 17, 2006 (page 2)
Michael Ausiello promises that Kevin has another relationship in the pipeline (not counting an upcoming one night stand). Ausiello reports that Kevin's new love interest is someone with ties to the conservative Kitty and that it's a fun twist. Hmmm, I'm smelling yet another Log Cabin Republican here. Guess they didn't get my memo on the topic! There is another possibility, and this is purely conjecture on my part, but Rob Lowe is joining the show as a Republican senator and with all the closeted Republican politicians of late am I crazy to wonder if this might not be the big twist? Sure would be interesting! FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE The latest Wilson Cruz flick, Coffee Date opens in Houston and Los Angeles and steadily goes wider from there. It's a sweet romantic comedy, but I had one big qualm with the plot. There is better news next Tuesday when the Tony Award winning play The History Boys makes the transition from stage to film. Few movies are as gay as this what with a gay writer, a gay director, and numerous gay plots. Alas, the movie is opening in limited release which usually translates to New York and Los Angeles. (I tried, but couldn't find the exact cities showing it.) Check back next week for our review of the play as well as our interview with Richard Griffiths and Samuel Barnett. This week's DVD releases bring us Tommy Stovall's Hate Crime starring the always wonderful Bruce Davison, as well as Cindy Pickett, and Susan Blakely. The movie centers on the damage wrought by religious homophobia and while I found certain aspects to be way, way over the top, I have to hand it to Stovall for going all the way with the topic and giving us an ending that was thought-provoking and jarring. On a lighter note, Tori Spelling's surprisingly funny, but short-lived series SonoTORIous is already coming out on DVD. If I'm not mistaken, it will include several unaired episodes. Hopefully, our favorite Iranian gay, Sasan, will be featured prominently. Speaking of Ms. Spelling, here! Films announced a new romantic comedy starring Tori as a blushing bride-to-be who learns her fiancée once had a fling with his teenage buddy who shows up right before the wedding. I'm guessing he's there to be more than just the best man. here! will air the flick both theatrically and on their network.
It's Thanksgiving next week so don't be surprised if there isn't as much to watch on TV. Brothers and Sisters has a new episode, but it looks to focus on Justin. Besides we have Kevin's one night stand before we get to his new love interest. Gosh, it's just fun even writing that! The Class has a Thanksgiving themed episode where secrets are revealed. Hmm, will Perry come out? Doubt it, but who knows? BTW, CBS just ordered up a new batch of episodes, but still hasn't committed to a full season. Help Me Help You is on break until the 28th. Darn! If you're interested in something completely different, TBS is airing Puppet Up! Uncensored on Nov 20th at 11PM EST. This is a new effort by the Jim Henson Company to reinvent themselves and involves improv puppetry. And it looks to be very gay friendly hosted as it is by the openly gay and very funny Patrick Bristow. Here's a clip to whet your appetite. And that's not the only gay thing happening in the Muppet world these days. The Henson Company is also looking to produce a show called Tinseltown, a comedy featuring a gay couple working in Hollywood while they try to raise their daughter. Oh, did I mention the gay guys are puppets in the form of a pig and a bull? The new season of Real World debuts on November 22nd. Yes, there is a gay boy again this go around. His name is Davis, he's from Georgia, and he's “like totally straight-acting”. Uh-oh. Looks like we've got another Lance Bass on our hands. Read more about Davis and watch some clips over at New Now Next. DeGrassi: The Next Generation has its season finale. Drawn Together is on Wednesday nights at 10:30 PM and remains the show I'm most embarrassed to love. Desperate Housewives continues to under-use Andrew who seems to have one line a week. Easy work for Shawn Pyfrom, but boring for us. Last week's episode seemed to point in the direction of a pedophile in the neighborhood. Since next week is Thanksgiving we're going to be taking a little break. Wednesday will be our last day with new content until the following Monday morning. (Note to closeted actors and musicians: Please don't come out after Wednesday! We really need a break. The world has lived this long without knowing you're gay. The news can wait until Monday the 27th. Thanks in advance for your consideration!) Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER! That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment |
