BOYKIN WINS GOLD! JENSEN THROWS SEVEN TOUCHDOWN PASSES!
The Gay Games have their closing ceremony tomorrow night at Chicago's Wrigley Field. Helping draw the games to an end will be Cyndi Lauper, ANT, Betty, Jason and deMarco and a whole slew of other gay entertainers. Despite a heat-wave pushing temps up into the triple digits, the games have been quite a success, not that you've likely seen or read much about it in the mainstream press (more about that next week).

Some Christian wackos have had more to say about the games themselves, most of which you can pretty much imagine. Doug Powers of WordNutDaily (a rightwing “news” site) must have missed the lesson about keeping your yap shut if you don't have something nice to say.

A special shout-out to African-American author and activist Keith Boykin who won a gold medal in wrestling by successively pinning Rick Santorum, Mel Gibson, and Arnold Schwarzenegger in competition this week. Or maybe it was three other guys. Either way, three cheers for Keith.

As for those touchdown passes, Brent and I finally broke down and bought an Xbox. Brent plays something called Halo while I, butch soul that I am, play Madden '06. And yesterday I quarterbacked the Denver Broncos to a 56-0 victory by throwing seven touchdown passes. Let's see Boykin do that.

AT THE MOVIES
Not a whole lot opening this week unless you happen to be in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Philadelphia. If you're in New York you can catch Ed Burns' (The Brothers McMullen) latest flick, The Groomsmen. In it, John Leguiziamo plays a closeted gay guy, but the reviews haven't exactly been stellar. Those in LA or San Fran can check out Francois Ozon's latest dark drama, Time to Leave, about a gay man with three months to live. Let's hear it for summer escapism! And those in Philly have the Philadelphia International Film Festival which is showing The Saint of 9/11 and Tan Lines amongst many other pics.

In other movie news, Rod 2.0 has some buzz about the next John Singleton movie. Nothing is official yet, but Rod reports that the movie is somewhat homoerotic and includes a love scene with rapper Bow Wow playing a bisexual drug dealer. Hopefully, he doesn't call his boyfriend “faggot”, punch him out, or cheat on him while he's at work.

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
This week there are new episodes of Work Out (uber-hunky and very gay Jesse arrives), Reno 911, Queer Eye, US of Ant (with a great show set in Alabama), Big Brother All Stars, and Can't Get A Date. Thomas Lennon, the gay sheriff from Reno 911 drops into The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Friday night.

Alas, Kathy Griffin is gone until her next series debut. Hmm, I wonder if it will be a little darker as we learn just what Matt got up to that caused Kathy to divorce him? I think he said she looked better before the plastic surgery.

If you're looking for something completely different, Carson Kressley is participating in that anachronism known as the Miss Universe Pageant airing Sunday night. Or you could challenge me to a game of Xbox, if you dare.

So you have something to look forward to this fall, A&E announced they have finished filming Wedding Wars starring John Stamos as a gay man who starts a nationwide strike protesting the laws against same-sex marriage. Norma Rae would be so proud!

Finally, Amazing Race 10 has announced their line-up and it includes Tom Rock and Terry Cosentino, a gay couple from New York. Tom and Terry are dating and one of them apparently had the idea a good way to test their relationship would be by traipsing from Seattle to China, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Paris. Whatever happened to just seeing other people?

And now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER!

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here.
