BECAUSE VISIBLITY MATTERS. JUST LIKE OUR TAGLINE SAYS
Ben Hogestyn, the actor who played the openly gay Lucas over on General Hospital, announced last week that he is leaving the show. Sadly, no one noticed, as a deaf mute mime would have more lines than poor Lucas. Instead, Ben's headed over to rival soap The Bold and the Beautiful. I guess constantly being mistaken for the guy who fetches Starbucks wasn't really stretching Ben as an actor. This, of course, was exactly the fear gay viewers had when GH announced Ben was coming out earlier this year (naturally he promptly got gay-bashed).

Turned out poor Ben was nothing more than the menorah that department stores trot out once a year at Christmastime to prove their commitment to “diversity.” Fortunately, for gay soap lovers, Luke on As the World Turns is still front and center on that show. No word if GH will recast Ben's part. May I suggest they contact the FBI's Witness Protection department and see if anyone needs help hiding from the mob?

BUT WHO WILL PLAY KIRA?
And if you know who I mean by Kira, you're even gayer than Probie. Or something. Of course, I'm referring to Kira from Xanadu as played by Olivia Newton-John. Broadway.com is reporting that every gay boy's favorite cheesy musical (except mine, which is The Sound of Music), Xanadu, is possibly headed for Off Broadway this fall. And best of all, one of my favorite out-gay actors, Cheyenne Jackson (United 93) read for one of the roles.

IT'S ABOUT A GAY MAN, WRITTEN BY A GAY MAN, AND DIRECTED BY A GAY MAN—SO OF COURSE THE TRAILER MAKES IT LOOK STRAIGHT
Remember how some of the trailers for Brokeback Mountain showed Heath and Michelle, and Jake and Anne featured together so prominently it looked like a heterosexual love story? Well, the trailer for the openly gay Augusten Burrough's Running with Scissors is up over at Yahoo and you'd be pretty hard pressed to tell there was anything the least bit gay about the movie. Indeed, the one suggestive scene showed the young Augusten potentially playing doctor with a girl. Okay, it involved electrodes, but the trailer nonetheless could've been a little bit queer. (And, no, the faggy blue scarf Augusten wears doesn't count.) Yes, I know movies cost a lot of money and need to reach a wide audience, but come on. No matter how many times they showed Jake necking with Anne in the back of that car, everyone still knew it was about gay cowboys.

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
I guess everybody must be on vacation over at Nip/Tuck, as Ask Ausiello didn't have any scoop about upcoming episodes having Christian being caught in some sexually “suggestive” situation. But Ausiello did report that Michael Williams who plays the openly gay Omar on HBO's The Wire, would be going full frontal in episode three. What's really sad is that this is news in America.

Speaking of scoop, check back on Wednesday for some scoop of our own about the upcoming season of Scrubs.

I've mentioned before that the upcoming network drama, Brothers and Sisters (Calista Flockhart, Rachel Griffiths) has hit some rough spots. First Jonathan Lapaglia, who played an openly gay character, was recast, then word of mouth was that the show was too dark. So to help with that problem the suits have brought in the openly gay Greg Berlanti (joining the show's openly gay creator Jon Robin Baitz). Berlanti is best known for Everwood, so I'm not sure the word I would use is “lighten” up so much as “sap” up. But, hey, that's just me.

FOX's Duets, which matches up professional singers with celebrities who apparently have too much time on their hands, has announced the cast. Those of queer interest include Lucy Lawless (Xena), Hal Sparks (Queer as Folk) and Queer Eye's own Jai Rodriguez. I simply have no idea how Jai will have time to appear on Duets, as I'm sure he'll be way too busy filming the new season of Queer Eye. (Darn! There goes my invitation to Bravo's Christmas Party!)

Be sure to check out new episodes of Work Out (no more of Jackie's lovely mother, thank heavens), Marcellas on Big Brother, Rex on Entourage, everyone on Lovespring, Queer Eye, Real World, Project Runway, and Noah's Arc. Speaking of Noah's Arc, after you read our Noah's recaps, pop over to Rod 2.0 and check out his much lengthier version that owes a lot to Mystery Science Theater 3000. Trust me, you'll laugh out loud.

Speaking of laugh-out-loud, check out this commercial with a cute gay twist. But be sure to watch until the very end.

Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER!

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here
