Normally, I would have nothing to say about a person's private grief, but Nancy is using her husband's death to champion one of her favorite causes: the ex-gay movement for which she does public speaking. Among other things, Nitwit Nancy claims Anne and Ellen broke up thanks to Nancy's prayers. You'd think she'd have better things to pray about, but fortunately there's nothing else bad happening in the world these days, is there, Nancy?
Speaking of ex-gay foolishness, one of my favorite blogs, Pam's House Blend, reports on Pure Passion, a new fall program about erasing the ‘mo in you. Fortunately, it's on the Sky Angel Network so you probably don't have to worry about stumbling across it.
SO THE LESBIANS GET ROSIE AND WE GET... JAMES MCGREEVEY?
James McGreevey's new book, The Confession, hits shelves on Tuesday, the same day that McGreevey, the former governor of New Jersey, appears on Oprah. His appearance on Oprah isn't just to push the book, but to further rehabilitate his image as the disgraced governor who had to resign when his affair with another man came to light. Or is that why he resigned? This article has a lot to say about the ethical issues surrounding McGreevey. Sorry to say, they ain't pretty.
Whatever the truth about his time in office, I'm less than thrilled with another former closeted gay guy getting so much media exposure. Unless Britney turns up pregnant again next week, Tuesday is going to be all about McGreevey. The Advocate talked to several audience members who attended the taping. They report the ex-guv discusses having an affair with another man while his wife was hospitalized after giving birth. At least he didn't hand her divorce papers while she battled cancer a la Newt Gingrich. Small comfort, but I'll take it where I can find it. I'll be curious to see how Oprah handles this. She's not one to let guests walk off scott-free if she disapproves of their behavior.
As if it's not enough that he got bucketfuls of cash to tell about his sordid past, New Now Next is also reporting that McGreevey is being considered as one of the gay men to appear alongside Joan Rivers on her new View-like show.
Speaking of The View, I've held off commenting on Rosie's addition to the show, but now that we've got a couple of weeks of her under our belt, I'm prepared to weigh in. (Yeah, I know. You've all just been waiting breathlessly for me to speak.) Rosie is great. I love the way she very matter of factly discusses her family and that she doesn't hesitate to get in the face of that very annoying twinkie, Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Earlier this week, Rosie fried Hasselbeck's circuits by suggesting that Christian fundamentalists are as dangerous as Islamic fundamentalists. Sigh. Wouldn't it be nice to have a gay man speaking out the same way? Oh, well. At least McGreevey isn't cheating on his wife anymore.
