Judging from the comments from some regular readers, you would've thought Queerty had invaded their bedrooms and done a complete makeover without permission. Sheesh, people, you get the blog for free, including this week's Narcissist issue. Queerty has proven their worth over and over, so if they want to try a little something different cut them slack already.
FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
Theatrically the week brings us only Confetti, yet another frothy British comedy (alas, only in New York and LA for now). It's a mockumentary about three couples competing to put on the most original wedding and win a prize. None of the couples are gay, but a gay couple is at the heart of the movie. Check back next week for our review.
On DVD we've got Footballers' Wives (Season Three), Strange Fruit, and Fabulous! Queer Cinema.
The real action, of course, is on television. Nip/Tuck continues to be queer, queer, queer. Last week we had Richard Chamberlain's turn as a creepy gay man paying to have his boyfriend remade in his image. (Thankfully, I kept Brent, my better half, from seeing the episode and getting any ideas!) Don't worry, you haven't missed Mario Lopez's bare tush. That's still coming up, as is Rosie O'Donnell's appearance as a lotto winner getting liposuction, plus it was just announced Alanis Morrisette will do a turn as a lesbian.
Last night brought us the controversial new season of Survivor with the participants divided up by race. If you're not so offended you've stopped watching then you might cheer for Brad Virata on the Asian team as he's the show's only openly gay contestant. Amazing Race also debuts on Sunday and this season features another openly gay couple— Tom and Terry —whom CBS has not at all been shy about advertising as a gay couple. I've actually been very impressed by ads for the show which show images of the men clearly labeled as a couple. And without a warning label or anything! Somebody alert Focus on the Family!
CBS launches The Class also on Monday. The show is noteworthy if for no other reason than the fact that it includes the only lead gay character on network television (and he's one in an ensemble of eight!). I know--how depressing is that? You can actually see the premiere episode right this VERY MINUTE! I knew technology would make life better, but I never dreamed of this! On Monday, we'll have our review of the first episode, plus interviews with Sean Maguire who plays the openly gay Kyle, and the openly gay Sam Harris who plays Perry.
Don't forget Tuesday's episode of Oprah will feature Jim McGreevey. And on Tuesday night Queer Eye wraps up its fourth season. Both The Office and Grey's Anatomy have their season debuts this week. Both have minor gay characters, but no word if they feature prominently in any upcoming episodes.
Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY. WEEK.EVER!
That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here.
