FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE (CONT'D)
Last week I made the mistake of watching something called I Love New York on VH1 (Damn you, Brian!). I still haven't recovered and I'm not sure I ever shall. New York is a spin-off of another reality show called Flavor Flav and I'm still rather in shock at what I witnessed. You might be thinking I'm so horrified because of the offensive gay character/participant/freakshow that is known as Chamo, but I'm not. I would be, but I can't get past how horrified the African-American community must be by the show. I know none of it is real and it's all supposed to be played for laughs, but in my mind it failed miserably. At least Being Bobby Brown officially got canned this week.

A much better viewing choice would have to be a new episode of Lifetime's Gay, Straight, or Taken? It seems like the reaction of the gay community is pretty divided between finding the show loathsome or slightly positive. I fall in the slightly positive camp, seeing GSorT as pointing out to folks you really can't judge a gay book by it's cover. The show did all right in the ratings although I Love New York did much better. Sigh.

Rupert EverettMonday's episode of The View will have Patricia Heaton who has taken some heat for her conservative views. I'll be curious to see what Rosie makes of her. Tuesday's edition brings us openly gay comic Mario Cantone (Sex and the City) and then on Wednesday Rupert Everett drops in on the ladies. It'll be interesting to see what he has to say about his belief Hollywood is biased against him.

Tuesday night had been the night that wouldn't stop giving us double doses of Big Day, but with only two episodes to go, I can't find nary a sign of the show on my TIVO listings. Darn! Maybe that's because the show was pulling in worse ratings than programs on Univision. (Seriously!) Last week's ep—yawn—did have the gay Freddie finally—yawn—reveal his crush on the groom to the groom. They even—yawn—kissed. The groom so didn't care, he never mentioned it to anyone else. Not that I blame him.

Wednesday night has two gay-interest shows, both on Oxygen. The first is Tease, a sort of Top Chef rip off for hairstylists that looks to be as gay as Mark Lund's voice. Coby of Survivor fame drops hairstyling tips while two other hairstylists duke it out on stage. Or something. Frankly, just watching it made my hair hurt. Tease is followed by the new season of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. No doubt had I seen this show last year, I would've thought it a travesty. However, after watching I Love New York, Tease, and Big Day, I almost enjoyed it. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for hot guys in their underwear (and sometimes less). And previews of upcoming episodes had this season's Survivor contestant, J.P. Calderon, wearing nothing. You expect me to pass that up? Come on! I'm only human.

Wednesday's episode of The Real World gets even weirder when Davis tries to sleep with a housemate. A female housemate. BTW, check out this week's recap, but don't read it while eating. Trust me on this.

Thursday has another gay-friendly episode of The War at Home. Last night Larry got all jealous because his parents are getting along so famously with the now out Kenny (Rami Malek). Kudos to the show for keeping the storyline going. Marc Urie should make an appearance on Ugly Betty. BTW, if you never got to see HBO's The Wire with Michael K. Williams brilliant turn as the openly gay Omar, BET is running the whole series every Thursday at 9.

So is that enough gay TV to keep you out of trouble for the week? I sure as heck hope so. One more thing before I let you go—pop over to BBC America to suggest they add Torchwood to their line-up. Just go here scroll all the way down to “other,” check the box and type in Torchwood! Every time someone does so, one of the AfterElton crack team of Flying Monkeys gets their wings.

Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER!

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here.
