SHELTER AND THE LAIR ARE HERE!
Brad RoweAs in Here! that is. Greg Hernandez over at Out in Hollywood reports that the network that brought us Dante's Cove will debut The Lair this spring. The Lair is stuffed with hunky guys and is set in a small coastal town where supernatural shenanigans are taking place. Wait a minute—isn't that Dante's Cove? I forgot to mention this show is about vampires, so that's completely different. My mistake.

Brad Rowe (Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss) stars in Shelter, the feature and writing debut for Jonah Markowitz, which just wrapped filming. Shelter tells the story of a young man who drops out of school in order to take care of his family. Naturally complications arise when he lays eyes on his brother's best friend and sparks fly. Given that this is a Here! production I'm betting clothes fly (off) as well

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
Unless you happen to actually be at Sundance this week, there isn't much at the box office again. If you are at Sundance, you might want to check out the documentary, A Very British Gangster. Think of it as a Gay Vito who talks funny. Well, funny in a British way. For more info on other Sundance films check out the BEST.GAY.DAY.EVER where we're covering it all.

Brokeback Mountain is out this week with a 2-disc DVD collector's edition. Special features include an interview with Larry McMurtry, and Diana Ossana, a profile of Ang Lee, and something called On Being a Cowboy where Jake and Heath discuss how they went about preparing for the film. Rumor has it there is a special hidden “easter egg” where the cast and crew of Brokeback reenact last year's Oscar ceremony, but this time they win and then, while accepting the Oscar, taunt and trash-talk the folks from that other movie. Okay, I only wish there was.

BTW, Santa brought me a Brokeback Mountain calendar for Christmas and would you believe that with twelve months of photos there isn't a single picture of Jake and Heath kissing! WTF! That's like Isaiah Washington going out in public and not using the “F” word.

Also out on DVD are the documentaries This Film is Not Yet Rated and Jesus Camp. Something tells me Jesus would not be too thrilled with the folks in that movie.

Once again, there is a lot on TV this week. I hope everyone's TIVO's are well oiled and ready to go. On Friday gay-fave Kathy Griffin drops by The View while Ellen has none other than Donald Trump as a guest. Talk about a come down from T.R. Many folks have been somewhat critical of Ellen for not raising gay issues on her show, especially compared to Rosie O'Donnell. I've always given Ellen a pass considering the media storm she endured coming out. That being said, it was great to see Knight addressing Washington's behavior on her show. Who knows? Maybe she'll push Trump a little, too.

Saturday night has a new episode of HBO's Extras. There is nothing gay this week, but there was a gay subplot last week that I forgot to mention. My bad. It was pretty good, too, as Andy (Ricky Gervais) made it clear he didn't approve of another actor's homophobia (think Isaiah Washington, only older and white). Ian McKellen guest stars on an episode a little ways down the road and I'll be sure to mention that again as we get closer.

The big show to watch on Sunday night for most will be the new episode of Brothers & Sisters. Naturally, many folks are curious to see what happens next with Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and Chad (Jason Lewis). Reaction to the last week's episode wasn't all that great. No doubt, many viewers weren't pleased by Lewis' apparent comment he was “scared” to kiss Rhys. Some folks also felt the two lacked the chemistry Kevin and Scotty (Luke McFarlane) shared, while others didn't like Kevin hooking up so quickly with a closeted actor. I'm going to keep hoping the writers have something well-written and maybe a little surprising in store. Not as surprising as what our B&S recapper thinks might be going on, however.

Sadly, this will be the last new B&S until next month. On the plus side, the show landed in the Top Twenty overall in the television rankings and came in at number thirteen in the ever important 18-49 year old adult category. Total viewership went up a million and the show only lost 3 million of Desperate Housewives' audience. Way to go guys! Not sure if it got mentioned on the BEST.GAY.DAY.EVER, but ABC ordered two more episodes, giving the show a full season order. A second season now seems almost as inevitable as Isaiah Washington finding another reason to use the “F” word.
