TOO LITTLE. TOO LATE. DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOUR ASS ON THE WAY OUT
Watching the Isaiah Washington story unfold yesterday was like watching a hurricane gather strength until even the powers that be at ABC couldn't ignore the fury over Washington's recent behavior. First ABC issued a statement about the Grey's Anatomy star's use of “inappropriate language” and “that his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed.” Faster than Donald Trump can bellow “You're fired”, Isaiah himself weighed in with an apology to “my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community.” He went on to add that “T.R.'s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character.” There's a whole lot more about how sorry he is, blah, blah, blah.

Goodness, I haven't seen this much spinning since the Olympic Figure Skating Finals in Turin, Italy.

Thanks for the apology, Isaiah (still waiting for yours ABC and Ms. Rhimes) but it's too little too late. An apology now only smacks of desperation to save your job, especially in light of your behavior Monday on the red carpet at the Golden Globes and at the press conference afterwards. Besides, you already apologized once, and that one apparently wasn't terribly sincere. Why should anyone believe you now when the stakes are clearly so much higher? And why just a statement? Perhaps you should make an appearance on Ellen so we can judge for ourselves just how sincere you are. (Note to Ellen: Keep a bodyguard nearby in case Isaiah gets all “choked” up.)

As for ABC, what are these people thinking? Why haven't they fired this joker as of yesterday? What employer keeps someone around who A) gets into a physical fight with a co-worker B) utters a homophobic slur about another, then issues a rather feeble apology only to C) later make what in hindsight sure sound like sarcastic comments ("I love gay. I wanted to be gay. Please let me be gay") to a reporter and finally D) finishes up by lying about the whole thing in front of the press? Is that not a disaster just waiting to happen? Catch a clue ABC. Like Paris Barclay said, Washington is a homophobe and a liar and needs to go before he does you anymore damage.

THOM FILICIA, ALAN CUMMING, AND MICHAEL URIE TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE PLEASE
Good news for three of our favorite ‘mos (or two ‘mos and one bisexual unless Alan Cumming has revoked his bisexual status). Former Queer Eye guy Thom Filicia is set to land on the Style Network as the host of Dress My Nest. Thom will use what is already in some poor clod's closet as the design inspiration for his or her entire house. I wonder what inspiration Thom would find in Brent's and my closets, filled as they are with lounge pajamas and tee shirts. Knowing Thom, it would somehow manage to be fabulous.

Michael UrieThe debonair Mr.Cumming is going to play a character named Glitch in the Sci Fi Channel's new show Tin Man, a sci-fi take on The Wizard of Oz. Don't ask me--I just write about this stuff. The network describes Glitch as a man with half a brain. Hmm, I guess Isaiah Washington must have passed on the role. Tin Man debuts in December.

Last, but not least, Ugly Betty actor Michael Urie heard those longed for words this week from ABC, “You're regular!” Not in a digestive way, but as in Urie is now a series regular whereas before his character only had recurring status. What does this mean? Well, it means Urie's Marc St. James is a hit with viewers and will be sticking around for quite a while to come. It also means Michael got a big fat pay raise!
