Best. Gay. Week. Ever.
by Michael Jensen
Friday, February 16, 2007 (page 3) FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE! Speaking of Mr. Hardaway, the French-Canadian film C.R.A.Z.Y. comes out on Tuesday. It's a coming of age story about a young man and his father, both coming to terms with his sexuality. To tell you the truth, I lost interest after twenty minutes and went back to watching The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. And that's never a good sign. Also out on DVD is Zerophilia, another movie about a teenager, but this is one who can change his gender. I haven't seen it, but the Los Angeles Times and Village Voice give it mixed reviews saying more bad than good. Scoring much higher with audiences and critics is Apartment Zero which comes out on Tuesday in a re-cut edition. Starring Colin Firth and Hart Bochner, this psychological thriller with its shocking climax has long been a gay fave. Check back on Monday for our review of the new cut and a look back at the original. And even though it isn't gay, I highly recommend the documentary about the Dixie Chicks, Shut up and Sing. Not much of queer interest on the boob tube Friday or Saturday, but Sunday again presents a buffet of choices. (Note to the networks: My life would be considerably easier if you would take all the gay stuff on Sundays and Thursdays and spread it over the week! Thanks in advance for your consideration!) Not only do we have Derek apprenticing for The Donald and Andrew's slightly increased profile on Desperate Housewives, but Amazing Race All-Stars is back with not one all gay team, but two! You can either cheer for Team Cha-cha-cha (aka Danny and Oswald) or Team Guido (aka Joe and Bill). I actually never saw those teams compete so can't comment on who has a better shot. I'll pull for both teams, but I'll be also pulling for the very gay-friendly David and Mary as well. Then of course there is Brothers & Sisters. Pretty much everyone knows by now that Kevin boinked Scotty last week in an effort to make Chad jealous. Hmm, how do you think that is going to work out for Kevin? The fall-out continues for Kevin this week as does the viewer countdown until Jason (no-gay-tokenism) Lewis exits stage left Monday is a new ep of The Class. Perry Pearl (Sam Harris) did reappear last week, but I still don't find his gay straight man shtick appealing. Effeminate straight men do exist of course, but they do not make icky comments about straight guys. Gay, Straight, or Taken has two new go rounds this week. Also on Monday Ellen hosts Fall Out Boy on her show. Seems a bit daring of Ellen as one never knows what frontman Pete Wentz might say. Something about anal sex perhaps? Wednesday offers up new episodes of The Real World, Top Design, and The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. The Real World probably hit its peak last week with Stephen becoming the anti-Tim Hardaway. Sadly, this week will probably bring us back to drunken shenanigans. Thursday will be a new episode of In the City and The Sarah Silverman Show, but there is no new episode of Ugly Betty. And since Kenny's storyline wrapped up on The War at Home, that show drops on the queer interest meter. Hmm, guess I spoke too soon about there being too much gay on Thursday. Oh, well. Survivor is always full of shirtless guys. And be sure to check out the the Best.Gay.Day.Ever. blog for updates on gay TV I might have missed. Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER. That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here. |
