AE: We really see that in the scenes in Eddie’s apartment where Jake keeps pulling away from Eddie when he goes to kiss him. HellBent also has a healthy sense of humor. How important is that?
BK: I think it’s very important. It doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s not trying to be something that it’s not. There’s a lot of really well-written humor in it.

AE: Do you like doing comedy and would you like to do more?
BK: I love comedy. Comedy’s great. Comedy and tragedy--it’s all relative.

AE: What is it that they say? “Comedy is tragedy plus time.”
BK:
Yeah, there’s a smile behind every tear

AE: What do you think of cultivating a gay fan base, if you haven’t already, with the release of HellBent?
BK:
It’s been very overwhelming and great. I’ve had a really great response. I’m really flattered by it.

AE: Jake survives the slasher--are there plans for a sequel?
BK:
Not yet, but it’s definitely something that’s been talked about.

AE: Would you appear in the sequel?
BK:
Sure. Hey, work’s work.

AE: Have you started your next movie project?
BK: Knock on wood (knocks), I’m going to be doing a movie called The Watch for New Line. It’s a Victor Salva project. I also just did (a stage production) of True West in Virginia and we’re thinking about possibly bringing it to L.A.

AE: Do you write as well as act?
BK: No, I paint. I express myself better through painting.

AE: Would you describe your work as representational or abstract?
BK: It’s figurative abstract expressionism.

AE: Did you study painting?
BK: Not in school. I’ve studied it on my own.

AE: Do you have a favorite painter?
BK: de Kooning. de Kooning and Basquiat. There’s a great Basquiat exhibition at the MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles) right now.

AE: I also understand that you have a twin brother named Denny. What is the scariest thing about being a twin?
BK:
Having a duplicate. Sharing the same DNA (laughs).
