Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain

You know you're a fan of Brokeback Mountain when you've seen the movie, loved it, and talked about it with your friends.

But if you've seen the movie multiple times, check the movie's box office take every day, and have read virtually every article about it you're something else altogether: you're a “Brokeaholic.”

Don't worry—you're not alone. In fact, there is a whole online community of obsessed Brokeback Mountain fans waiting for you over at Dave Cullen's Ultimate Brokeback website. They're the ones who coined the term Brokeaholic. And it is they who haunt the discussion boards at Dave's site where you can find forums devoted to every—and I mean every!—detail about the movie.

“Even I don't know every forum,” says Dave. “And some are discussing something about the movie I've already thought about and just can't obsess over anymore!”

You want to talk about the scene where Ennis breaks down sobbing in the alley? Visit the Alley Scenes page for a detailed analysis. Interested in Anne Hathaway's portrayal of the secondary character Lureen? So are other Brokeaholics and there is a thread where you can dissect most every sentence Anne utters. Without a doubt, the Brokeaholics have teased every bit of meaning out of Lureen's final words to Ennis: “Go up to his parents. I am sure they'd appreciate Jack's wishes being carried out...About the ashes I mean.”

You can also chat about the short story upon which the movie is based, Brokeback's impact on the wider culture, and, believe it or not, Jake Gyllenhaal's eyelashes right there in “Jake's Eyelashes Forum.” If that still isn't enough, how about a live thread for this Sunday's Screen Actor's Guild Awards. You can join in as Dave Cullen's Brokeback Maniacs monitor every award, divining each for how it will affect Brokeback's chances at the prize everyone really cares about—The Academy Awards.

Dave Cullen is a forty two year old gay man living in Denver, Colorado. He makes his living working as journalist and author. Dave 's work has appeared in Salon, the New York Times, and he even won a GLAAD Media Award for an article on gays in the military of which he is especially proud. When not blogging about Jake and Heath, he is hard at work on a book about the Columbine High School shootings.

Dave hadn't read the short story on which Brokeback was based when he first heard about the movie. Yet the idea of a movie about gay cowboys gripped him nonetheless and he became obsessed with it. “I was really hoping it wouldn't suck,” he says. When Brokeback played at the Venice Film Fest, Dave googled it all weekend to see if it won and when it did, he says he went nuts. News of Brokeback's Venice win became his very first blog post on the topic.
