November

Dirty Laundry — Patrick (played by Rockmond Dunbar, who appeared in Punks back in 2000) is a successful, African-American, gay magazine writer with a big Southern family he hasn't seen in 10 years. When they visit, the shenanigans ensue. (Nov. 1)

Volver — In this film from openly gay director Pedro Almodovar, a woman's ghost returns to comfort her daughters (including Penelope Cruz) and grandchild. This may sound simple enough, but remember, this is an Almodovar film. (Nov. 3)

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of
Kazakhstan
— This film is based on a skit from the creator of Ali G, Baron Cohen. The title character, Borat, travels to America to bring back important knowledge to his primitive homeland. If your brand of humor is satirizing people's prejudices (think Archie Bunker from All In the Family) then this is the movie for you. Although Jews are the prime target of Borat's bigotry, he leaves no stone unturned by including us gays in the mix. (Nov. 3)

For Your Consideration — This latest film from Christopher Guest stars Jennifer Coolidge, John Michael Higgins, Jane Lynch and Parker Posey as a lesbian. If this is anywhere near as good as Waiting for Guffman or Best in Show, it will be funny. (Nov. 17)

Candy  finds Brokeback star, Heath Ledger, addicted to heroin. Why you should see it? This is Heath's first movie since the Academy Awards and it would be nice to know Brokeback Mountain was a good thing for his career. Oh, and he's hot. (Nov. 17)

Let's Go to Prison — In this comedy starring Arrested Development's Will Arnett, gay stereotypes range from going for the soap in the showers to being wooed by the prison inmate next door. Is it making fun of the stereotypes or is it making fun of us? (Nov. 22)

The History Boys — Nicholas Hytner directs the big-screen version of the award-winning play about eight friends navigating their last year of school, and focuses on one boy's attraction to a male classmate. The actors who originated the roles on stage reprise their roles in the film. (Nov. 22)

December

3 Needles — This contemporary AIDS story stars Stockard Channing, Olympia Dukakis, Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, Chloë Sevigny and Shawn Ashmore (you know him as X-Men 's Iceman). The movie tells the story of the virus in Africa, China and North America.
(Dec. 1)

Dreamgirls — Written and directed by out gay filmmaker Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters, Kinsey, Chicago) and based on the Broadway musical of the same name, Dreamgirls follows three young 1960s-era black female singers. Effie (American Idol's Jennifer Hudson), Deena (Beyoncé Knowles) and Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose) try to cross over to white audiences after being discovered by an ambitious manager (Jamie Foxx). A musical with three divas as the leads, directed by a gay man: What's not to like? (Dec. 25)

Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds — In the follow-up to the 2004's popular Eating Out, Kyle (Jim Verraros) has to pretend to be someone he's not (that's right, he pretends to be straight) in order to win the man of his dreams, Troy (Marco Dapper). Things get out of hand when Kyle not only ends up joining an ex-gay support group, but lands a girlfriend to boot. Did I mention Troy's a nude model? (Release date TBA)

Coffee Date — Straight out of Outfest (okay, yes, now I am doing some serious puns) this movie by Stewart Wade takes a comic look at the friendship between two men, one gay and one straight. The film stars Wilson Cruz, Jonathan Silverman, Sally Kirkland and Jonathan Bray. (Release date TBA)

The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros — Filipino director Auraeus Solito offers up character driven realism about an 12 year old hustler's spiritual awakening as he falls for a cop on the corrupt streets of Manila. The film screened at the prestigious New Directors, New Films series and Sundance this year. (Release date TBA)
