Wins for Spamalot and La Cage Aux Folles, and a touching acceptance speech were just some of the highlights at the 59th Annual Tony Awards, held at New York's Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 5.

Spamalot, the theatrical adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail which includes a gay love affair between Lancelot and Herbert, took home three Tonys, including Best Musical, while the latest version of the classic gay-themed comedy La Cage Aux Folles won Best Revival of a Musical. In accepting an award for Best Coreography for La Cage, Jerry Mitchell thanked “my partner, Eric Shure, who gives me unconditional love.”

The night's other big winners includeDoubt and Light in the Piazza.

Playwright Edward Albee, author of several classic plays, like Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and A Delicate Balance, received a lifetime achievement Tony, which he dedicated to the memory of his partner of 35 years, artist Jonathan Thomas, who died from cancer in May. "He made me a happy playwright," Albee said of Thomas, adding "And you have made me a happy playwright tonight."

The 2005 Tony Awards were broadcast on CBS on Sunday evening, with Hugh Jackman hosting the event for the third straight year.
