AE: [laughs] And Jack will still be bi-- that's what I want to know. He'll still be bisexual.
JB: Oh, my God, yeah. Oh yeah, he's still gonna be the same Captain Jack. A little... maybe a little bit more mysterious. Because, remember, he's come back to the present-day, so he can't be as... I mean he will be in-your-face, he will be open, but he can't...

He doesn't even want his team to know a lot about where he's come from and what he's done. But you'll find out a lot about Jack, in this series, and some of the stuff, some of the... [laughs] oh, I can't even say it, but some of the alien things that happen are so great. [laughs] So great. I can't... And that's it, I can't tell you any more.

AE: OK. I'll just have to wait. Wait and watch.
JB: Absolutely.

AE: OK. Well, one last thing I wanted to ask you was - Is it really true, I heard that they decided not to give you the part of Will in Will & Grace because they thought you were too straight?
JB: Oh, yeah, no, let me clear this up. It was down to one of the final casting [procedures], which was what they call Producer's Call. And I was going into the Producer's Call and it was myself and a couple of other people, and they did say to my agent that I was too straight.

AE: Right.
JB: So that is true, but I didn't... I wasn't, like, right ready to get the job, do you know what I mean?

AE: I see.
JB: It was a Producer's Call, but they said I was too straight. Which I found... I just, you know, go figure. Go figure.

AE: What do you think of Will & Grace? I mean, do you watch it at all, or...
JB: I don't. I did watch it, but I don't watch it any more, because I think it's a little unrealistic. And and that's great, because it's a heightened-reality type of show, but Will would have a boyfriend. Stop going down the road of him and Grace doing, you know... “gonna get together, gonna have a baby”. You know, that part of it's unrealistic to me. If Will is a lawyer, in New York City, he'd have a boyfriend.

AE: Yeah.
JB: But they won't give him a boyfriend, because it's not acceptable to the Middle American public.

AE: Yeah. Yeah. I found that... There was this particular episode [Season Five, Episode Thirteen] where they introduced Dan Futterman, who's an actor I really like, as Will's potential boyfriend. I think that was the first time that they'd ever introduced anyone serious for Will, and I think they just, basically, kind of flirted with the idea and then wrote [Dan Futterman's character] out for no reason, and then I was just like -
JB: Exactly.

AE: “I was hoping that this show was gonna do something that it's just not prepared to do”.
JB: No, it's... It started out kind of like [cult British comedy series] Absolutely Fabulous, you know, [that] kind of level of going against the grain. Then it became... you know, what I call “too network” [laughs]. But anyway. C'est la vie [that's life].

AE: OK. And as one final question - can you just tell us a little bit about what you've got lined up next? Obviously you've got Torchwood on the horizon, and also Season Three of Doctor Who presumably.
JB: Season Three of Doctor Who, yes. I've got a pantomime that I'm doing over Christmas in Cardiff, and I'll be ice-skating in it, with my Dancing On Ice skating partner Olga [Sharutenko]. She and I are coming back together to do that. There's the possibility of a Dancing On Ice Christmas Special. I mean, there's loads of stuff in the pipeline, an album, so there are many many things happening, which I'm really grateful for.

AE: Brilliant. OK, well thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me.
JB: I appreciate it, thank you.

AE: And good luck with everything, and I'll look forward very much to seeing Torchwood!
JB: Thank you!
