Ask the Flying Monkey! (June 29, 2009)Q: Do you happen to know if Gregory Michael will continue in his role as Grant on Greek for the new season starting in August? It would also be nice to see Calvin and Grant actually act like lovers rather than just two guys sitting next to each other on a couch. -- Darcolover55 A: He’ll be back, and we’ve been promised that the show will give the characters’ relationship more development than Calvin’s previous romances. Then again, we’ve been promised that before – repeatedly – only to be disappointed.
Gregory Michael (left) and Paul James on Greek Q: I've been listening to Paramore recently and they seem nice and down to earth. But considering their religious beliefs, I was wondering what their views are on homosexuality? Are there any gay Christian musicians out there? – Jose, Guatemala City, Guatemala A: No word on the band’s stand on gays, but in 2007 guitarist Josh Farro said, “We are Christian, but we’re not a Christian band.” I’m not exactly sure what that means either, except that they’re being a little cagey so as to not blow their mainstream success.
Paramore The biggest gay Christian musicians right now might be the duo Jason & deMarco, featured in the 2007 documentary We’re All Angels. But others include Glenn Baker and Hamby & Swaggerty, which is made up of two gay twin brothers and one of their partners.
Clockwise from top left: Jason & deMarco, Q: I am a young gay man who plays video games as a main hobby and have known for a while of an up-and-coming videogame called Bayonetta. Could the main character be the latest gay icon? She seems to have all the wit, firepower, and spunk to make the cut. What does this bode for women like Barbra Streisand and Kathy Griffin, and how can they keep their game up with this new competition, ignoring the fact that she comes equipped with pistols for stilettos? -- J A: You’re kidding, right? Streisand and Griffin could both easily take down Bayonetta, whether or not she has pistols in her stilettos. Did you learn nothing from the story of what Barbra endured to get Yentl made – not to mention Kathy’s efforts to win her Emmys, and her would-be Grammy? But your greater point is an excellent one. It remains to be seen (for me) whether Bayonetta is just another straight teenboy fantasy with gravity-defying breasts (like – let’s face it – Lara Croft), or if she really does display anything resembling genuine wit. But like you, the trailer has the Flying Monkey intrigued. The game trailer for Bayonetta
