Q: I overheard my family watching SyFy’s Ghost Hunters Academy last night, and serious gaydar blips were blipped by the winner, Adam Berry. I’m interested inasmuch as I can be in a show about hunting ghosts. – Nick, Omaha, NE

A: “First, I live in Provincetown,” Adam Berry tells me. “Not that everyone who lives here is gay, but you know what I am saying! Yes, I’m gay.”

Adam and his boyfriend of four years, Ben Griessmeyer, co-founded the Provincetown Paranormal Research Society two and a half years ago.

“I have been interested in the paranormal from a very early age when I had some scary encounters,” he says, including an encounter with some ghosts at the Gettysburg battlefield. “It made me want to know more.”

Adam and his boyfriend are also both actors and heavily involved in theater – but the show didn’t emphasize that, for fear that viewers would think he was “acting” on the show.

“Theatre is a passion and so is paranormal investigating,” he says. “I tried to sing on the show Ghost Hunters Academy to see if I could get a reaction from a spirit. There is a theory that I would like to work more on: about playing music from a certain time period if it correlates with the stories and the people who once lived there, to see if may bring about some [ghost] activity. Who knows? It’s all a theory.”

Having won Ghost Hunters Academy, Adam will join the ongoing SyFy’s Ghost Hunters show this fall.
