Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (March 30, 2007)

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE!
After Wild Hogs and 300 I'm happy to report this Friday brings us a mainstream movie that doesn't dish up gay jokes or play on homophobic stereotypes. In fact, according to our own Brian Juergens Blades of Glory is a surprisingly fresh and funny film on male intimacy.

And if you're in Los Angeles you can also check out Race You to the Bottom starring Amber Benson as Maggie, a woman with a boyfriend who gets involved with a bisexual man with a boyfriend. I hear it's almost as great as Wednesday night's episode of Lost.

DVD brings us 29th and Gay, the story of one man's quest for love as he turns 30. The description for the movie sounds pretty generic—actor…not dating…PFLAG parents—but what did get my attention was the description of the movie's “hunk” played by Mike Doyle (Oz) as “gorgeous, straight looking”. Yeah, because we all know there ain't nothing better than straight looking! (Which is what exactly?)

Also out is Pedro Almodovar's Volver, All That Jazz, 3 Needles, and Sun Kissed. Neither Volver or 3 Needles are gay, but both are directed by gay men, and All That Jazz is, well, All That Jazz.

Due to the fact I'm in New York and the Flying Monkey's are insisting I take them to see the musical version of Tarzan (how cliché is that?) I don't have as much time to run down the week's TV listings. But thanks to the BEST.GAY.DAY.EVER.BLOG you can check out Queerview for what to watch each and every day.

Saturday night Logo is running The Elephant in the Room, a documentary about gay folks who identify as Republicans but can't seem to find love. I hear the original title was You're Really Surprised No One Will Date You, but that was deemed too negative.

Sunday night is another episode of AMAZING RACE: ALL STARS which I think you should all be watching just to cheer for Danny and Oswald. Then a little later Brothers & Sisters is back with another new episode. Kevin (Matthew Rhys) fans will continue their countdown to Chad Berry's (Jason Lewis) departure and the arrival of Eric Winter as Kevin's next potential love interest. Kevin and Chad's relationship isn't prominently featured this week, but that doesn't mean Kevin won't do something that to cause you to say, “What the hell was he thinking?”At least that's what I thought when he reacted to half-sister Rebecca the way he did.

BTW, in case you missed the news both Winter and previous Kevin love interest Luke MacFarlane have been cast in rather high profile pilots with a good chance of getting picked up. This means what exactly? That Greg Berlanti should reconsider casting me as Kevin's next love interest. Don't worry about, Brent. He knows I'm a professional and that my snogging scenes with Kevin would be nothing but acting.

Finally, three cheers to CBS for finally casting Luke's (Van Hansis) love interest on As The World Turns. (Is it a coincidence it happened one week after I threatened to lower the boom? Hmmm....) If you missed it Jake Silberman will debut as Noah on May 31st. I asked the ATWT publicist for a little scoop, but she said Jake had just been cast and even she didn't know just what was in store for Noah. As long it's not a sudden coma, getting kidnapped, or a sudden, unexplained trip to Siberia, I promise not to complain. Much.

Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER!

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here.

Brother & Sister spoiler question

Michael (or Brian), Can you tell us if those two spoiler comments are related to the same storyline?

Lost

Shannon teased Boone about being gay way back in season one - she said something about Locke being his new boyfriend, but I can't remember what episode. I agree that it's pretty lame that they expect that to be a big gay character revelation, since it was both "revealed" before and not really taken seriously at all. I still think Shannon was just teasing him anyway, and not even really serious. Either way, it sucks. I wish they hadn't killed off Boone - I'm a big Ian fan. It was good to see him on Lost again this week but I was disappointed since he had like 3 lines. I still love the show too, (this weeks episode was sooooo shocking!) but I wish they would have a real gay character.

Uh oh. Lee...

those aren't real spoilers. Michael didn't tell me anything and I was just kidding. I should've made that clear. My bad...

Phew

I thought those spoilers were for real, Michael! We were trying to dissect them on the forums over at TWOP. LoL. I hope you're enjoying episode 18 (if you got your preview screener). It's quite funny. :)

Two Corrections

Actually "Three Needles" has a gay character in one of its episodes -- Stockard Channing's son. As for "All That Jazz" the "Air Erotica" number in the show within the film features male-male and female-female dance couples. Plus one of the show's backers is gay and flirts with a chorus boy. And on top of that there's the great Anthony Holland as the show's composer singing "Take Off With Us." God but I miss Tony.

Doood...

You forgot to mention Charlie Hunnam also played gay, in the original UK version of Queer as Folk. He was Nathan, or as we call him on this side of the pond, Justin.

Your previous favorite writer until you got that guy in New York over whom I'm totally sulking now,
