Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (April 27, 2007)

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
While I personally almost slept through wasn't wild about Dreamgirls, I know a lot of gay boys were. For those fellows, Tuesday will be a banner day as Dreamgirls comes out on DVD. But this won't be just any DVD release. Paramount is throwing a big bash to commemorate the event. Showing up for the festivities will be Ugly Betty's Michael Urie and Becki Newton, Entourage's Rex Lee, and Emmy winner Leslie Jordan to celebrate by squeezing every last dollar out of this puppy honoring inclusion and diversity in the industry. I'm sure my invitation will be here any moment.

If you happen to be home on Friday night John Waters drops in on Henry Rollins' show over on IFC. If you're home on Saturday night, Logo has the US premiere of Freddie Mercury: Magic Remixed, a documentary about Mercury's life and career. Here is a clip of Freddie's last performance:

I was wrong about last week being a double elimination on The Amazing Race which was a good thing as Danny and Oswald came in last. They have to do really well Sunday night or they're toast. The week after is the season finale; with any luck, they'll make the top three.

Brothers & Sisters is back this week. I'm afraid I don't have any spoilers. The episode is called "Bad News", but for a change it's not bad news for Kevin or one of the guys can't seem to make things work with. This time it's Sarah and Joe, and Thomas and Julia who have the most problems.

Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) gets a fair amount of screen time on Monday night's episode of How I Met Your Mother. Apparently, it's been a lifelong dream of Barney to be on The Price is Right and I've no doubt the out Harris will make the most of this bit.

Tuesday night's episode of Work Out is like none other in the show's history. The clip we put up yesterday is pretty misleading as it focuses on Jesse's training session with a Colt model. That seems like a rather odd segment for the episode where Jackie, Brian, and the other trainers learn just how dire things are for the ill Doug Blasdell. But there turns out to be more to the Colt model than just his physique as he tells Jesse about his service as a Marine in Iraq. Then follows a discussion of Don't Ask, Don't Tell and how poorly the military treated a fellow soldier who was awarded a Purple Heart before being discharged. Bet you didn't see that coming.

Then before we even get to Doug's illness, we watch Jackie go home to visit her mother in an attempt to improve their rocky relationship. On top of that, there are issues with her deceased father, and, well, it's pretty heavy. Then there is Doug's illness. Watching Brian Peeler, Doug's best friend in the gym, get the news of just how sick Doug has become is heartbreaking. There haven't been many friendships between straight men and gay men like theirs on television and it's tragic it ended this way.

Tuesday night also brings the second episode of Logo's The Big Gay Sketch Show at 10 PM.

As you probably know from our Shear Design recap, Theodore had his “final cut” leaving us with only one gay boy left to bat for our team. Maybe it's progress that it turns out that the gays aren't as gifted in the hair salon as we've been led to believe all these years!

A couple of weeks ago we asked for your suggestions for our Best Same-Sex Kisses page. Well, the page is up so go check out some of our--and your--favorite kisses. As you suggest more and more occur, we'll update the page!

Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER!

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here.

Hello; long time reader here

Hello; long time reader here who LOVES the site and this column. I just wanted to point out that you got a name wrong, on the first page. It's not Ralph Corrdry, it's Rob Corddry. Sorry, I just adore him, so I had to comment. :)

Thanks! Got it

fixed!

Hi Michael!

I think that the use of the strikethrough is getting old but otherwise you're a god!
Michael Jensen's picture

Dear Don

We here at AfterElton Industries thank you for you feedback which we have sent to the recycle bin considered very seriously. I will completely discount consider your criticism of my use of the strikethrough. You are clearly a disturbed individual with too much time on your hands a very thoughtful person. Check back for next week's 100% strikethrough free column! As if. :-)

That comment was from me!

I'm not trying to hide! lol

The name is Henry Rollins,

The name is Henry Rollins, not Rollin. The possessive form would therefore be "Rollins'" or "Rollins's" (depending upon which style guide you follow), but not "Rollin's."

Thanks for

the catch!

Best Same-Sex Kisses suggestion

Without a doubt in my mind the kiss in "Torchwood: Capt Jack Harkness" is one of the most romantic kisses ever. John Barrowman is arguably one of the sexiest men around. I say arguably because each to his own taste.

Actually, it was your running a clip of that kiss that led me to check out more on Torchwood and it's an amazing series. It's darker, funnier and much more adult than Dr Who. There are a few more same-sex kisses through out the series, as well.

BTW...Love your superhero!

Me: Little Red Dragon

See, I need the wings to fly back and forth from NYC to Seattle with Michael's Starbucks. It's what they call my "core competency".

strikethroughs

I actually like the use of the strikethroughs. I think it's clever and makes me laugh. I like how it demonstrates the juxtoposition in what people say and what they actually think.

What a brilliant comment!

Totally worth five stars!

AfterElton Man

Aha! So that's the kinda person you are, Michael! The minute you get a little famous and make the superhero ranks as AfterElton Man you ditch the gnarly flying monkeys for a single, sleek, and sexy red dragon. I thought that's exactly what you'd do so much better of you.

Just like Rosie and ABC, the Flying Monkeys and

I couldn't reach an agreement for their continued employment. Their demands we're simply outrageous! They wanted a writing credit, script approval, and each one demanded their own dressing room. Like good management around the world, I refused and I'm happy to say that once Pip appeared the Flying Monkeys caved and will still be on the site. (Take that as a warning, Brian!)

Strikethroughs

Maybe I was too hasty! Perhaps a ration of three one per story would keep you at your best.

Can't Swing a Dead Cat without Hitting a Gay-Themed Episode

Isn't EVERY episode of "Family Guy" a gay-themed episode?
