News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (May 25, 2007)

AND ON THE OPPOSITE END OF THE SPECTRUM
Earlier in the week Towleroad posted a clip of two Red Sox baseball players being friendly in the dugout during a game. What you might not know is that there were so many homophobic remarks posted about it on YouTube that they pulled them down and turned off the comment function altogether. Because you know the baseball guidelines clearly state that players are allowed one butt-slap after a really good play and can hug passionately after winning a game. But anything more is just guh-ross!

I actually think the clip was kind of cute, but it's a good thing Americans are so unlikely to travel overseas where straight men—gasp!—kiss each other in greeting and even hold hands. Perverts!

OUT STRIKES OUT AGAIN
We are, of course, always flattered when someone picks up and comments on our articles and plenty of folks did just that with our recent two parter on out gay journalists. And what people had to say about the series was almost universally good—with one exception. Popnography.com, part of the Out/Advocate media empire, accused us of covering up for a certain much-speculated about newsman.

Said Popnography:

All that and yet AfterElton managed to never once refer to Anderson Cooper! Not even with the tried and true disclaimer about "much-discussed rumors"!

They were, of course, happy to weigh in on the curious phenomenon of other media who do the exact same thing.

Well, gosh, why do we need to refer to Cooper by name in our series on out journalists when there are magazines willing to slap him on their cover and “out” him without offering up any proof other than “much-discussed” rumors? I guess we'll just leave that kind of journalism to Out.
