News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (May 25, 2007)

SAVED IS SAVED!
In the 2004 movie Saved, Mary (Jena Malone), a young woman who becomes pregnant by her gay boyfriend, hits her head and thinks she sees Jesus who instructs her she must do everything she can to help him. And, naturally, that's bound to work out just hunky dory, right?

Well, Saved was supposed to be yet another in a long line of movies making the trek from screen to stage (while being transformed into a musical along the way) until troubles got in the way. But there is good news! Playwrights Horizon will be staging Saved after all in spring 2008 with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman. No word on the cast yet, but I wouldn't hold your breath on seeing Mandy Moore reprise her role as uber-bitch Hilary.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK:

FIRST PLACE:

Martha Stewart to out fashion guru Tom Ford: “When are you coming back to women? Are you?”

Judging from this Vanity Fair cover, it looks like Tom already has!

Martha was actually asking when Ford was coming back to designing women's fashions, but given the way Tom cocked his eyebrow and looked at her askance was quite funny. BTW, Tom has been with has partner for twenty years, but says he was bisexual until he was 26 and won't rule out some day ending up with a woman again.

RUNNER UP, Veronica Mars:

Wallace Fenell (thinking he's being cruised by a gay student) to Veronica Mars: “Remind me which color bandana I'm supposed to wear that says I'm straight. I'm flattered and non-judgmental...”

Man, I'm going to miss this show!
