Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (May 25, 2007)FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE! We've actually got a couple of things on DVD this week. Woo hoo! First up is Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds. We're not talking great art here, but it does have plenty of eye candy. Speaking of art, The Lost Language of Cranes finally makes it to DVD on Thursday. This is the rare instance where the movie is almost as good as the book on which it's based. And now that are fewer places to get gay books, I have to wonder how the next The Lost of Language of Cranes will ever find an audience. Sigh. Now that everyone knows the big reveal on Brothers & Sisters about Uncle Saul being gay, there has been a lot of discussion about the plot twist. I have to say, I'm one of those who thought they spotted signs that Saul might be a ‘mo during the season, but it turns out we were wrong. Jon Robin Baitz himself said it was only done because they didn't know what else to do with the character. That's not usually a good sign in how a storyline will be handled, but I'll trust the out Baitz to manage it appropriately. And is sure beats Peter Tolan's reason for making Probie “gay” on Rescue Me. BTW, B&S finished up very strong on Sunday night for ABC which is a great sign for next season. So many series this year got off to a bang and then saw their numbers slide as they staggered toward the finish line. Much of that blame has to do with the absolutely idiotic decision by TV executives to show two episodes of a program, take a week off, show five episodes, then take a month off and so forth until viewers had no clue when their favorite show would next air. I get paid to keep track of this stuff and even I found myself getting confused. Fortunately, the suits swear they've learned their lesson and won't pull the same crap next season. Anyway, the B&S finale pulled in 12.7 million total viewers and 12 million amongst Adults 18-49 to win its time slot handily. Now bring on those Emmy nominations! In one final piece of B&S news, Michael Ausiello over at TVGuide.com reports that fans of Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and Jason's (Eric Winter) burgeoning relationship need not despair it'll be over as Ausiello doesn't think Winter's new show Viva Laughlin is long for this world.
