News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (May 29, 2009)

Wednesday and Thursday brings more auditions on So You Think You Can Dance. If there was anything even remotely as homophobic as what we've seen previously, I'm sure the editors are working furiously re-editing it out. Hoping they might actually show an out contestant treated respectfully is probably nutso, right?

It's been a while since I've mentioned Comedy Central's Reno 911! featuring out officer Jim Dangle and I feel bad about that. So not only am I mentioning it airs on Wednesday night, but here is a clip of Officer Dangle explaining what he's looking for in a guy.

And I thought I was picky!

Thursday has another episode of The Fashion Show. I've got the last couple episodes on my DVR, but the fact I have to see Merlin keeps me from watching.

Finally, also on Thursday, NBC debuts their summer drama The Listener, about a paramedic who is also a telepath. Call it Medium with a dude in a truck with sirens on top — although this EMT has time to drive around solving cases. It really reminded me of bad 70s television — "Here, Sabrina. Put on this wig and you'll look just like the dead girl's twin sister! Super, Jill! Good thing I also just happen to speak Japanese and know how to fly small aircraft!"

I've seen the first two episodes of Listener — okay, make that about an episode and a quarter as this one is a stinker and that's all I could stomach. It looks incredibly cheap and the writing is a throwback to the clunkers of the 1970s.

Hmm, what might he look like wearing fox?

At least Craig Olejnik (pictured above), who plays said psychic, is easy on the eyes and the second episode features United States of Tara's Keir Gilchrist as a character with a secret.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Last week, I mentioned how the upcoming release of Battlestar Galactica on DVD didn't include the Faces of the Enemy webisodes. I finally heard back from the show and their explanation is:

Because Battlestar Galactica has such loyal and passionate fans, we try to include as much Bonus Content as possible to enhance each release. However, sometimes due to legal clearances, timing issues, and/or disc capacity, not every piece of available content can always be included

Personally, I find it unlikely the show went out of its way to exclude the only content featuring the fact that Gaeta is gay. But given how some networks such as, oh, say, Fox treat gay folks, it's easy to have doubts which is exactly what I told the spokesperson.

Next page! Change, it is a coming!
