News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (June 8, 2007)

Bill T. Jones is just one of a whole slew of folks to get nominated for Duncan Sheik's surprise hit Spring Awakening. I saw this one as well, and while I thought it got off to a great start (and appreciated the small gay subplot), I ultimately felt it petered out. (Our associate editor Brian Juergens liked it quite a bit more.)

Also up for Spring Awakening is the out Michael Mayer for directing

and Spring Awakening producer Tom Hulce

Not wanting to short shrift anyone, I tried to compile a list of as many of the out nominees as possible, so here goes! (BTW, I can't guarantee this is everyone.)

Scott Ellis, director of Curtains

Scott Frankel, composer of Grey Gardens

Michael Greif, director of Grey Gardens

Michael Korie, lyricist of Grey Gardens

Cameron Mackintosh, producer of Mary Poppins

Jerry Mitchell, choreographer of Legally Blonde

Jack O’Brien, director of The Coast of Utopia

Doug Wright, librettist of Grey Gardens

Matthew Bourne, choreographer of Mary Poppins

Fred Ebb, lyricist, Curtains

Good luck to everyone and check back Monday morning for our Tony coverage.
