News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (June 8, 2007)

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE

Precious little at the box-office this weekend. If you want to ogle pretty straight boys, Ocean's 13 is full of them, including the very gay-friendly George Clooney. Or if want to see lesbian actress Heather Matarazzo get tortured, there is Hostel: Part 2.

DVD brings us Season 2 of Noah's Arc, loaded with all kinds of specials. Speaking of Season 2's, last week I forgot to mention that Dante's Cove's second go round just came out on DVD. My bad.

I'm really not sure what to say about the train wreck that was the MTV Movie Awards. What was that half hour commercial for the Transformer's movie? As for the show itself, I just felt icky after watching it and my opinion of Sarah Silverman went way, way down. To make myself feel better, I had to watch the Enrique Iglesias clip a half-dozen times.

While it was initially nice seeing a same-sex kiss again snag Best Kiss, the whole thing had a very different vibe than Heath and Jake's win last year which really seemed cool. When Ferrell and Cohen went at it on stage, everyone seemed more grossed out than anything else. And what was with Michael Chiklis' (The Shield) mincing, lisping pronunciation of Little Miss Sunshine? Grow up already.

And I really don't think I can be accused of being a humorless, uptight prig because I found Kathy Griffin's Everybody Can Suck It special on Bravo to be hilarious (although the first half was definitely the strongest). Kathy can match Sarah profanity for profanity, but she usually...well, has a point. Meanwhile, Sarah seems to be saying dirty and gross stuff just to shock. I confess I adore The Sarah Silverman Show, but what I like about it is that it seems to make fun of the ignorant, bigoted "Sarah Silverman" character. Now I wonder if I'm reading into it, and she's not quite in on the joke.

Tonight you can catch Rufus Wainwright on The Henry Rollins Show performing his cover of "Going to a Town".

Saturday night is a new ep of The Graham Norton Show on BBC America with guest Orlando Bloom.

As previously mentioned, The Tony's are tonight on CBS starting at 8 PM. If thea-thu isn't really your cup of tea, The Next Food Network Star is on at 9 PM, and out contestant Paul is still in the running.
