News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (June 15, 2007)

BUT IS A GAY MAN GOING TO WIN OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN MULTIPLE CAMERA EDITING?

In case the Tony Awards, the GLAAD Awards, and the ghastly MTV Movie Awards haven't quenched your thirst to see bizarre little figurines handed out to the botoxed and boozed up, you can indulge in the 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards--presented at night naturally.

Alas, there isn't a whole lot here for us gay boys to get excited about. For us, the most interesting award will be in the soap opera category Outstanding Younger Male Actor in a Drama (as opposed to the Outstanding Ancient Actress Who Never Got A Better Gig And Hung On To This Role For Dear Life in A Drama category). As the World Turns' Van Hansis is up for his role as gay boy Luke Snyder on the CBS daytime sudser and his is definitely a worthwhile nomination.

Hansis has played the role wonderfully, bringing a real respect and dignity to a surprisingly believable coming out story line--even when all the other kids were getting knocked off by a serial killer up at a mountain lake. Now that takes some real acting! Not having seen any of the other nominees, I can say unequivocally that he deserves to win! I hope he does.

Other than that, the most interesting battle for the an Emmy will be whether or not Rosie O'Donnell's tenure on The View will finally help the ladies snag their first Emmy. Rosie won't be in attendance, but Elisabeth Hasselbeck will be there, and we can always hope some scaffolding breaks loose and impales her. (Did I write that or just think it? My bad.) A win would be great as it would validate how much Rosie meant to the show.

Neil Patrick Harris will also be there to present an award, and I'm starting to think he'd show up to give an Eagle Scout his merit badge. Don't get me wrong--I love seeing him at the Tony and GLAAD awards, and hosting on Regis and Kelly, but doesn't he have a partner at home? Also presenting will be Ellen DeGeneres, Mario Lopez, and Thad Luckinbill who recently played Richard Chamberlain's gay boyfriend in need of improvement on Nip/Tuck.

Speaking of As the World Turns, Noah (Jake Silbermann) turned up again this week on the show and continues to rub Luke the wrong way. I quite like the character and what they are setting up their future relationship. I'd wager that the more antagonistic they are now, the harder they're going to fall for each other.
