News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (June 19, 2009)

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE!
Am I the only one disappointed in the big summer movies so far this year? Nothing has really taken off and captured the zeitgeist like a Spiderman, Batman Returns or Mamma Mia! I've heard good things about Up! and Drag Me to Hell, but haven't had time to check those out yet what with moving, editing and writing certain columns week after week after week.

Unfortunately, this week doesn't look likely to change my feelings much. Even though they suck like a Hoover vacuum testing facility, I'm a sucker for Sandra Bullock movies. That being said, I just can't get too optimistic over The Proposal even with a nearly naked  Ryan Reynolds.

In fact, word of mouth is that it's pretty average and that Reynolds is rapidly becoming the next Matthew McConaughey. Just how true might that be? Check out the cover of the latest Entertainment Weekly

Heck, even I could photoshop Matthew onto that cover and you'd hardly notice the difference! On the other hand, just looking at Ryan in that pic makes my head swoon

Also opening is Year One with Jack Black and Michael Cera, though no swooning is being induced there. If nothing else, at least it's not another Judd Apatow movie. Oh, wait — he's listed as a producer. Is there anything he's not involved in?

Weekend television kicks off Friday night with Republican heretic Meghan McCain dropping by Real Time with Bill Maher. No doubt her progressive stances on gay issues will come up.

Kings has some interesting casting Saturday night when Macaulay Culkin guest stars in an episode built around a city wide ... blackout. Whoa, that sounds exciting. Apparently having the power cut puts the Royal Family in danger, but also gives Prince Jack time to get some royal nookie with his boyfriend. No doubt serious repercussions ensue. Including cancellation.
