News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (June 26, 2009)

BRUNO IST ALREADY OVERSTAYED HIS VELKOMMEN UND STARTING TO STINKEN LIKE WEEK OLD BRATVURST
You'd have to be lucky enough to be in a coma to have missed the onslaught of Bruno promotion that is descending upon the world like the ash from the eruption of Mt. Krakatoa. (If you don't get the reference, you weren't paying attention in school and I'm not going to hold your hand and explain it to you now! That's why god invented Google.)

We've certainly covered the topic here on AfterElton.com whether it be the film's potential "homophobia", trailers, Sacha Baron Cohen's outrageous stunts to promote the movie or the endless parade of billboards and promotional pics as well as the naked Bruno dolls in McDonald's Happy Meals. (Maybe I made that last one up ... but maybe not!)

While I certainly have to tip my hat to Cohen for his relentless and often clever/creative self-promotion, I have to wonder if he isn't dangerously close to overexposure that might hurt the movie. I've been curious about the film ever since I first heard about it and my curiosity only grew with each trailer and new story of some outraged person snared in Cohen's web.

But ever since the MTV Movie Awards, I've found myself thinking, "Okay, enough. Just show me the damned thing already!" And if that feeling keeps growing, I can imagine myself going into the theater feeling seriously bored with the subject matter and prepared to be annoyed.

Perhaps Cohen should dial it back for a couple of weeks so we're actually curious about the movie rather than feeling like he's turned into that obnoxious relative who doesn't know when to shut up. (No, I don't mean you, Grand Pa. Okay, yes, I do.)

But what's your take?

I BET SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE WON'T BE DOING THIS ANYTIME SOON!
ABC, arguably the most gay-friendly of the broadcast networks, has announced they are sponsoring a float in this Sunday's gay pride parade in New York based on Dancing with the Stars. In fact, they're developing a whole shebang of of DWTS promotion aimed just at the gay community including this special rainbow logo:

As if the show wasn't gay already.

Not only will there be a float in the parade, but it will feature several of the hunky DWTS' dancers including Tony Dovolani and Fabian Sanchez as well as Cheryl Burke and Kym Johnson. If you're lucky enough to be in NYC for the festivities, be sure to give the guys a holler from us!

Now they just need to have a gay couple compete!
