News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (July 10, 2009)

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE!
Well, after what seems like a year of relentless promotion, controversial stunts and over exposure, this summer's big gay movie drops this weekend. That's right — Humpday is here!

I know it's almost impossible there is anyone who doesn't know the plot of Humpday, but in case you somehow missed all the hoopla, it's about two straight guys who dare each other to enter an amateur film contest where they'll have sex ... with each other. I know that sounds salacious and exploitative, but the reviews have been pretty much raves across the board with the film currently scoring 94% fresh on RottenTomatoes.com.

Ben: Even though we're straight, would you rather have sex with me or see Bruno?
Andrew: Have sex with you. Definitely!

Oh, and some film about a gay Austrian opens. Any bets as to which is better? BTW, here are the poll results about whether Bruno's non-stop in-your-face promotion had turned you off from seeing the movie.

Friday night has new Real Time with Bill Maher as well as Jeffrey and Cole Casserole.

Saturday night's Kings has David arrested for treason and Jack the one deciding his fate. Entourage returns for a new season on Sunday night and Lloyd (Rex Lee) steps it up the first episode — much to Ari's chagrin.

Remember when Billy Campbell used to do good stuff? Or at least gay stuff? Pity the former Tales of the City star if you check out NBC's Meteor on Sunday night.  Variety says its so bad, it's almost worth watching.

Billy Campbell: After this, I'm going to go on to have a fabulous career!
Paul Hopkins: Or end up in crappy disaster flicks. But it's work!
Billy Campbell: I remember when life seemed so full of promise!

True Blood is back after a one week break and we learn the identity of the horned beast that attacked Sookie.

Monday has new eps of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Weeds, Nurse Jackie and Kathy Griffin hangs out with Rosie O'Donnell.

Tuesday night we might or might not learn if PC is really gay on NYC Prep. Airing right after is Bravo's new reality show Miami Social. Meanwhile, Wednesday has a new The Real World: Cancun. Derek hooks up with a guy and his ex shows up Oh, joy.

Jeff Lewis is a guest judge on Top Chef Masters. That could be interesting. Meanwhile, Thursday will have another episode of Big Brother 11 — assuming your stomach is strong enough...

And if you get through that, Bravo's Andy Cohen has a new show debuting at midnight. Watch What Happen: Live will have Andy chatting with the network's most popular participants. I guess that means Ari won't be a guest.

BTW soap fans, I hope you are checking out our Daytime Drive By feature! There is now so much gay stuff happening on daytime television, we can't possibly blog it all, but our own Ed Kennedy has updates every day there is something going. Check the front page every afternoon for the latest!
