Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (July 13, 2007)

INMATES, ASYLUM, ETC.
That's right, folks: Michael (or as I like to call him, "The Prime Obstacle") is off in Los Angeles rubbing elbows with the likes of John Barrowman and ... well, all I got from him was a constant stream of OMGOMGOMJOHNBARROWMANOMGOMG, so I'm not sure exactly who else is there. But he's doing fabulous things with fabulous people, and so in his stead I'll be bringing you the gayest and most notable events of the week.

Magic Kingdom, indeed.

Unfortunately, my helper from last time is MIA — not sure where the prairie dog vanished to, but word around the AfterElton.compound was that the Flying Monkeys were jealous of his success. And then that unmarked pâté appeared in the break room fridge shortly after he disappeared ...

"SUDDENLY ... THE WHEELS ARE IN MOTION"
Anyway, let's get to it. The biggest event of the week was of course the opening of Xanadu on Broadway, easily the gayest thing to happen to theater since jazz-hands. Directed and adapted by gay men from a camp explosion of an original film, the play is loaded with gay jokes and sensibility, and now stars out leading man Cheyenne Jackson as the dopey, short-short-wearing Sonny.

Now, I know what you might be thinking: between our interview with Jackson and review and recap, this topic's better covered than a Mormon at the beach. But I thought I'd take the opportunity here to highlight one more thing about Xanadu: the t-shirt.

Yes, my boyfriend and I were so taken by the show when we saw it in previews that we actually laid down cash money for souvenirs (no milk for a week!). To show just how versatile the Pride-happy, rainbow-swathed, glitter-embossed shirts are, here's a pic of me wearing one at the Broadway Bares show last month (with fabulous New York cabaret performer Bianca Del Rio).

And here's a pic of my boyfriend wearing the same shirt.

Okay, that's not my boyfriend ... it's our cat, Weezie. But don't tell her that. As you can tell, she doesn't have both oars in the water.
