Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (July 27, 2007)MOLIERE, THE SIMPSONS' WAYLON SMITHERS, 300, AND OTHER GAY-SEEMING CINEMATIC HAPPENINGS French-produced biocomedy Molière doesn't seem to address the rumors about the playwright's possible homosexual leanings, but it has been reviewed fairly well and might be worth checking out for its drawing-room wit. On DVD this week the cavalcade of gay-seemingness continues, from the homophobic/homoerotic Spartan tale 300 to the heartwarming and gory British buddy movie Hot Fuzz (which I loved) to the sinister manuverings of Rome (Season Two ... er, II). On the tube we've got two gay-heavy reality premieres to look forward to: HGTV's competition Design Star (Sunday) and Bravo's realty reality show Flipping Out (Tuesday), which is packed to the gills with gays of all varieties ... if you've picked up the All Bitchy, Sociopathic, Neurotic, and "a Little American Psycho-esque" Variety Pack, that is. For a few video examples, head on over here. My favorite character by far at this point is Monkey, the cat. Below is either a photo of him or of me after Michael told me I might have to watch the whole season.
In addition, tonight the ever-more-fabulous ABC Family replays this week's gay-friendly Kyle XY episode, and should have a new episode of Greek on Monday as well (we'll also be running our interview with Paul James, who plays gay Calvin, soon -- so stay tuned!). Turns out The Kill Point on Spike TV has a gay character. He's an older African-American man who is one of the hostages. Wednesday we'll have a new Top Chef, with gay Dale still in the running to take the prize. And Sunday's Without Prejudice includes both a gay trucker and a transgender woman in the pool of those being judged, which might actually make the show watchable for once (it really is horribly boring, isn't it? Watch these people judge ... in real-time!!). And if you're into podcasts, check out Logo's new "Oh God I'm Gay" podcasts hosted by Alicia Ross who discusses spiritual issues relevant to the LGBT community. Alicia's first two guests are Larry Grimaldi and Tom Kam and you can subscribe here. Well, between TCA and premieres and what-not, it's been a busy week for all of us here on the good ship AfterElton.com, and it'll be nice to get back into the groove. Although we do have the fall television season and Oscar-baiting months just around the corner ... ack! In the meantime, enjoy the summer sun, and have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER! This weekend we have the long-awaited Simpsons Movie hitting theaters, and no doubt it will be just as gay-friendly as the show always has been, and we'll hopefully see lovestruck gay-seeming Waylon Smithers pining after the nefarious Mr. Burns, as ever.

hey...why the dissing of the
Infamy
I have a friend who quotes that line all the time! Not really a diss on the Carry On films, but I didn't remember them to be particularly highbrow and when I checked Wiki it noted:
Sounds like Adam Sandler movies!
Carry On...
Personally, I think both
Personally, I think both Carry on Screaming and Carry on Cleo are both much better films than Khyber. (to quote wikipedia "In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted [Carry on Screaming] the 40th greatest comedy film of all time")
As to the accusations of Sexism....well....yes, I suppose they have a point, but to be honest, it's all done very innocently and taken as period pieces, I'd say there's no more (and probably less) sexism than in Benny Hill, for example.
Pirates are TOTALLY gay!
Gay Pirates eh?
I've been meaning to buy this book since I found it, ages ago on Amazon, but apparently pirates were, in reality, quite gay

Stardust Crushed by Inertia? Big Time!
Thanks for the link to Crushed by Inertia's review of Stardust. Wild-eyed negative reviews do next to nothing for me (unless they're wildly funny) and too many pans in the blogosphere are wild-eyed. This one, however, is articulate, intelligent, well-organized and.... devastating.
I'd planned on seeing Stardust first thing on release. Now I'm not likely even to crank up the DVR next year when it plays on late night pay cable.
P.S. I do soooooo look forward to Christie's posts!
Michael & Brian Together Again
Its like a "Queer as Folk" reunion around here ...
And this line alone:
>Kristin Chenoweth plays Olive Snook<
Makes me want to watch that show. -
Kirby, moviedearest.blogspot.com
Same old thing....
We've already seen his
We've already seen his ex-boyfriend, who's around the same age.
Do you watch the show?
