Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (August 07, 2009)

I TAKE A WEEK OFF AND SUDDENLY I'M RUSSELL T DAVIES!
As many of you noted, the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER! went AWOL last week. When the column failed to turn up last Thursday evening, I dispatched a squadron of Flying Monkeys to hunt it down. The column was located in a bar in downtown Pasadena begging to not have to watch any more of CBS' new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose

After being subdued, the BGWE was hauled back to the hotel, forced to attend the rest of the Television Critics Associate Summer Tour and has produced this very column all about my time there and what new shows are coming to your televisions this fall!

On to the news!

I GUESS THIS AT LEAST PUTS US ON THE Z-LIST!
Part of the TCA Tours are the network parties wherein the various talent from that network's programs make appearances to chat with us riff-raff, aka journalists. The parties are always fun and the stars range from the incredibly friendly and genuine (Victor Garber, Jeff Lewis, Mark Indelicato) to those I won't name here, but don't give a fig if their new projects flame out faster than you can say Scrubs

But of all the celebs I've met over the years, none was as charming as the irrepressible Kathy Griffin who I met at Wednesday night's NBC party. Naturally, I had to get a picture with Kathy!

Kathy and me, her first AfterElton Gay

Kathy was pretty much exactly as she appears on her show (she didn't miss a chance to pose for a single picture!), which is to say she was smart, funny and outspoken. She was delighted to know she had recently won our Gay of the Week award and promises her upcoming book Official Book Club Selection will rock our world.

Despite the fact that Kathy was mobbed when she arrived and that the official photogs couldn't get enough pics of her, Kathy insisted she needed to carry the above sign and that she was no where close to getting off of the D-List. Let's just say that Kathy has her shtick and she's not about to let it go.

Let me also say, I never seen anyone nearly as good as Kathy at not only working the crowd, but making you feel like you're her best friend when you're chatting with her. Given that I saw her working the same way with everyone, the fact the still made me buy it, shows just how good she is.

Look for Kathy's book next month.

Next page! It was bloody great? Um, it didn't suck? It was fangtastic?
