Best. Gay. Week. Ever! Even More TV Gays! Plus Gay Sex and Death on "True Blood"

WHERE THE GAYS ARE! BUT NARY A BI GUY, OF COURSE...
A big part of why I go to the Television Critics Association press tours is to ogle Matthew Morrison try and ferret out new gay content for the coming TV season. Putting network presidents on the hot seat and interviewing hostile TV writers is just the icing on the cake. So how did I do this time? Was it worth two weeks in ballrooms so heavily air conditioned that polar bears were routinely sighted in the press scrums?

I've already mentioned the new gay characters on ABC's The Whole Truth and Happy Endings, as well as Greg Berlanti's promise that his ABC show No Ordinary Family would have gay characters, assuming it survives past its first couple of episodes.

I also noted that USA's Facing Kate would be adding a secondary gay character while CBS hoped to move from an "F" to possibly a "D" by adding secondary gay characters to $#*! My Dad Says and The Good Wife (plus a lesbian character is being added to Rules of Engagement). And I got the scoop on who had been cast as the new gay gladiator on Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.

While NBC didn't have any concrete characters to boast of, Law & Order: Los Angeles is going to take a critical look at Prop 8 (and maybe add a gay character) and The Event was created by Nick Wauters, a gay man who said that show would eventually have gay characters. As for Fox, it looks as if Glee's Kurt is going to remain a chorus of one as none of their new shows have any 'mos, although the very funny Raising Hope with Martha Plimpton is from the very gay-friendly Greg Garcia who gave us tons of great queer content on My Name is Earl.

But fear not as I did find some other promising GLBT content over on cable. PBS (when was the last time I mentioned them?) is doing a documentary series in November called Circus, which follows performers of the Big Apple Circus around the eastern seaboard for a year. And amongst those performers is out juggler and gymnast Jake LaSalle.

Stay tuned for more details about Jake!

While MTV's Teen Wolf doesn't debut until early next year, it's yet another show written and created by a gay man. His name is Jeff Davis and he told me Teen Wolf would most certainly include gay characters with one of the adults already being written as gay and plans for at least one gay teen to be included. I've watched the pilot and am happy to report this one should be around for a while.

One of my favorite animated shows is Archer which not only did a very funny gay episode last year, but included a gay spy named Ray Gillette. Ray didn't get that much to do in the first season, but this season he's been elevated to the big leagues. And since he's voiced by Adam Reed, the creator of Archer, I think it's safe to assume we'll definitely see more of him.
