Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (August 22, 2008)
FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild continues its rolling release, opening in New York this week. I know you really want to see it, but I’ve seen it. Don't bother. And when you go anyway, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
From left to right: Aaron Michael Davies, On the other hand, Brian loved the gay-friendly comedy Hamlet 2 and starting next Friday it's probably playing at a theater near you so why not check that out? You gotta love a movie with a title like Cthulhu, which you don’t even know how to begin to pronounce. But hey, it’s the title of the H.P. Lovecraft source material! It’s gay horror film starring Tori Spelling, which is redundant in the eyes of some people, I know. Get it? Horror = Tori Spelling? But after Trick and Tori & Dean, I’m actually a Tori fan, and I even forgive her for Kiss the Bride. It’s nice to see her branching out.
I’ve been wary of “independent” horror movies ever since I got duped into seeing the interminable Cabin Fever several years ago, and the trailer for The Wretched looks, well, wretched (unless the movie’s good, I won’t be the first critic to use that particular pun!). Still, there looks to be some eye-candy, and the trailer already has the makings of a camp classic. Out on DVD is Prom Night. Wait! A serial killer killing teens on prom night? That’s never been done before! No, seriously, aren’t there already, like, six movies with this exact same title? Finally, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, starring gay faves Amy Adams (Enchanted) and Frances McDormand, is also out on DVD. I really meant to see this one in the theater — how the hell did it slip by?
Amy Adams, Frances McDormand I already mentioned I like Swingtown, but Friday night is your chance to see why. Perhaps we'll get a bit more movement in our gay teen storyline. Or — I hope, I hope! — Michael Rady shirtless again. Saturday night has David Bromstad on Color Splash, but it's Sunday night when things get gayer with Skins, Shameless, Mad Men, and Brooke Knows Best. Okay, it's not that gay because Maxxie barely shows up on Skins; Salvatore's (Bryan Batt) storyline on Mad Men is not only not on the back burner, it's not even still on the stove; and, well, is anyone actually watching Brooke Knows Best? We were told Sanjay was going to be showing up on Weeds, but, um, I think he had two lines. And after recent events, the show now officially has no sympathetic characters. I think I'm done here. Madison Hildebrand looks like he's going out on another date on Bravo's Million Dollar Listing on Tuesday night, but it's a girl this time and she thinks Madison made up the word polyamorous. Hey, maybe he did — it's only been around a decade or so, right? She also thought the camera filming their date was part of Madison's security system. Instead of watching that trainwreck, check out Soapnet's General Hospital: Night Shift starring Adam Grimes as Kyle Julian. Yes, it's a cheesey soap, but Kyle gets more screentime than most other gay characters, plus we just learned that Chad Allen is going to play his love interest for three episodes. Also on Tuesday we've got Food Detectives with Ted Allen, How to Look Good Naked with Carson Kressley, and if you're really desperate you can look for Vincent on Eureka. Next page! Don't look now, but it's the Fall television season! Submitted by on Thu, 2008-08-21 21:35. |
