Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (January 11, 2008)

WHAT'S THIS? A GAY MOVIE WITHOUT HUSTLING, DRAG QUEENS, OR DRUG OVERDOSES?
Trailers for the upcoming Brad Rowe movie Shelter started popping up all over the place this week and if the film is half as good as the trailers make it look, we could actually have a decent gay flick this year!

For those not familiar with Shelter, it tells the story of Zach (Trevor Wright), a young man who has to give up his dreams of becoming an artist in order to help his unmarried sister take care of her son. I can totally relate to this because when I was twenty, my brother desperately needed a kidney, and I selflessly gave up an afternoon watching TV so he could get dialysis. So I know all about familial sacrifice.

Anywho, Zach's world gets turned upside down when Shaun (Rowe), the older brother of his best friend, returns to their beachside town of San Pedro, CA. The two become surfing buddies and eventually lovers. I can also relate to this because that's a frequent fantasy of mine.

Most gay guys will remember Rowe from his turn in Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss where he played the sexually ambiguous Gabriel opposite Sean Hayes' Billy Collier.

Forgive me for going a little Shelter crazy, but this flick really looks like it could be a breath of fresh air and I'd like to see it succeed. So here is a musical montage of the movie.
