IMHO — THIS WEEK IN GAY TV
Nuke was minimal again on ATWT, but at least Noah gets up an up arrow this week. Ugly Betty kept up Marc's storyline and even better, Justin looks like he's getting back to normal. Torchwood is disappointing and there isn't much going on gay-wise on Brothers & Sisters. But with the writer's strike looming, this might be as good as it gets for quite a while.
So here is the up, down, and sideways on these shows and more!
WTF?!? Someone was in bad mood in this week's episode. Luke is snapping at people and yelling and then he throws Noah out. Someone needs to use a two-by-four to knock some sense into that boy.
Jake was just about perfect as he stood by his cranky man. He coaxed a Halloween memory out of Luke and got his leg to bend. Noah, don't you dare give up on Luke! He never gave up on you. BTW, ATWT — one day of Nuke per week is not enough. Are we clear on that?
I really am sorry Jesse got eliminated this week, but I am so grateful I don't have to watch anymore that I'm still using an up arrow. But the show's producers get a big down arrow for putting on someone clearly not up to the standards and then picking on him for that week after week.
Yay! Our old Justin is back obsessing about Broadway shows. No more joyriding or basketball hoops for our boy! Now how about getting him a boyfriend.
Marc refuses to kiss Cliff and makes him feel like a worthless schmuck? Boo! Hiss! He so doesn't deserve someone so cool. But it looks like he finally realizes the error of his ways. Now he just has to hope Cliff will give him a second chance. (I'm betting the answer to that is yes.)
Just because he's pudgy, has a bad haircut, and dresses badly doesn't mean Cliff is a doormat. He gives Marc what's for and ends up the better man. I wager Marc will figure that out soon enough.
Kevin's helping Sarah fight the suddenly ruthless Joe in court. Yawn. Yes, it's nice not all of his storylines are about his being gay, but it sure is getting old watching Kevin just be helpful.
Okay, I'm really starting to get annoyed. First we had Jack brutally gunning Suzie down last week. Then some sort of shenanigans between Jack and Ianto are hinted at in the episode's final scene, but I already watched next Saturday's ep and Jack is hardly in it. Instead it's all Gwen 'Bloody' Cooper as Suzie might have said. Torchwood is in danger of becoming Boringwood.
I love that the gay guys on Desperate Housewives have bad taste, but I found the over-the-top comparisons to Nazis and fascism rather off-putting as it made them seem unreasonable. (If someone put that noisy contraption next to my house I'd "accidentally" drop a bag of concrete into it.) And how convenient they "discovered" Katharine's secret. DH's worst ep this season.
It's been great how much more "gay" Ellen has been of late. But this week she blew an opportunity when she presidential candidate Barack Obama appeared and Ellen lobbed him a softball question about gay marriage when he already knew his position on that. So why not ask him about the homophobic, ex-gay preacher he appeared with last weekend instead?
Mario Cantone and Orlando Jones made a sweet couple on a pretty great episode. So why the arrow down? Because despite clearly indicating that a relationship was brewing between the two, I'm told Orlando isn't scheduled to return so that promising relationship is kaput. Still, Mario will be back and it is ABC so I won't hold my grudge for too long.
This week we had a special edition of Drawn Together Babies in which we learned Xandir became gay when kissed as an infant by a very hot guy. (Don't ask!) Any show that can use poopy diapers to bring up our shameful ignorance of the genocide in the Sudan is all right in my book.
Big Gay Todd keeps his alliance on Survivor: China together even though the tribes merged. And if he plays his cards right he looks to be in control for the long haul. But with James having two immunity idols, Todd knows who is biggest threat is now. Will he find a way to handle James next week?
