News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (November 14, 2008)

Next Tuesday's DVD releases actually offer a cornucopia of choices including a big budget movie with a gay character, plus two gay genre flicks!

Up first, we've got Robert Gant's spy-thriller from here! Kiss Me Deadly also starring Shannen Doherty. Our second kissing movie is Kiss the Bride starring another 90210 alum, Tori Spelling. Alas, we weren't wild about either one, but at least both provide the mancandy. (And you can order Bride here.)

Our big budget flick is Tropic Thunder which included a nice gay reveal at the end. Also out on DVD are Buying Arizona, Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror, and The Derek Jarman Collection.

Melissa Etheridge and wife Tammy Lynn Michaels stop by Oprah to chat about Proposition 8. I imagine Etheridge's threat to not pay California state income tax will come up. Now if only Elisabeth and Sherri were there to tell Melissa she already has the right to marry -- a man.

Friday night kicks off with what might be the last airing of NBC's Lipstick Jungle which sucks huge because not only were we getting close to another character joining Roy on Team Gay, but Cheyenne Jackson was due to make an appearance as well. This also means Robert Buckley (pictured right) will have to find another show on which he can frequently doff his shirt. No word on how many of the five remaining eps will air.

And The Starter Wife is still airing, but I have to wonder if any AfterEltoners are watching as I don't think I've seen anyone mention it. Anyone out there slogging through this show for Rodney? Speaking of slogging, I wish I had nothing but praise for here!'s latest, Hot Gay Comics Live!, but I watched the first two eps and I have to say there was only one stand-out, Jackie Monahan who was actually laugh outloud hilarious. The rest? Um, not so much.

Graham Norton welcomes Robin Williams this week and I'm sure it will be great, but I'm betting it can't compete with Norton teasing David Tennant last week about what he and John Barrowman got up to in the Tardis. Or Norton placing a Doctor Who sex ad in a gay magazine for David. Graham is a very bad boy, and by bad, I mean great. Plus David was a really good sport. (BTW, this episode actually aired in the U.K. last year.) Also, David Bromstad has a new episode of Color Splash.

As usual, Sunday is a veritable blizzard of gay. Degrassi has a new ep, but no mention of Riley or Peter in the previews. Sunday night's episode of Brothers & Sisters finally has Justin setting up Uncle Saul with Dave Foley plus there is an actual storyline involving Kevin and Scotty. But it looks like Kevin is kind of a clod as usual. (Don't worry, he gets to make up for it in a few episodes!)

Big things go down on Desperate Housewives this week, plus I also found out who has been cast as the gay plastic surgeon. Also on Sunday is the second ... what's that? Oh, you want to know who the surgeon is! Silly me. Thirty-two-year old Todd Grinnell (Cold Case, Samantha Who?) landed the part and should be dropping by in a couple of weeks. No word on how long he'll stick around, but for those interested, this isn't Todd's first time playing gay on TV. He also played gay on NBC's short-lived Four Kings.

True Blood airs it's second to last episode and no doubt one of the fellows will get nekkid. And probably die. Or kill someone. Or all three. And in case you missed the news, our very own Brian Juergens has done such a fabulous job with "Blood Work", our True Blood vlog, that HBO is now featuring it on their official home page. How freakin' cool is that!

Monday's Gossip Girl includes Eric, but he's involved in someone else's storyline. Bo-ring! And Lance Bass has made it into the semifinals of Dancing with the Stars which is actually an achievement the way Len has been riding him. (Get your minds out of the gutter.) You can see if Lance makes it to next week on Tuesday night. Also on Tuesday night the CW airs another episode of Privileged with Marco, the baking wonder. I was told back at the TCA that Marco would have a personal life, but thus we've heard him talk more about his blueberry scones than the man in his life.

Fortunately, also on Tuesday Logo (AfterElton.com's parent company) airs the second episode of the very funny Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World.

Wednesday has the second episode of Top Chef NY with Richard looking like he might go far. There is another episode of Stylista on the CW (anyone caught an ep yet? Thoughts?) and The New Adventures of Old Christine which had last week's best Elisabeth Hasselbeck crack when Matthew, referring to Christine's son says, "What if it gives him an overinflated, unrealistic opinion of himself?" to which Chrstine's husband Richard responds "Yeah, talk to Elisabeth Hasselbeck's family."

Suh-lam!

Thursday has new episodes of Survivor: Gabon, The Sarah Silverman Program, Tim Gunn's Guide To Style, and The Office. Best of all is Ugly Betty with Marc going up against Betty for the only spot in the Young Editor's Training Program.
