Best. Gay. Week. Ever! Let the Gay Take Away the Cliche!

JUST CONSIDER IT AN EARLY XMAS PREZZIE!
A lot of stuff has gone down since my last BGWE column, so this week is a bit of a hodgepodge as I catch up!

First off, for those of you here in the U.S., I hope you had a very nice Thanksgiving weekend. The Flying Monkey (aka Brent, my partner) and I had a very relaxing time with lots of reading and quality cuddling, but the best part was decorating for Christmas. We went with one color  this year and our front room looks really amazing with the tree, the fireplace and the stairs all done up in red lights.

Okay, that iPhone picture doesn't do it justice, but trust me, it's pretty cool!

We don't actually do a lot of decorating, but it still manages to look very Christmas-y. Now if only Brent gets me the Starbucks latte maker and lifetime supply of Dove dark chocolate, it will be the perfect Xmas!

Not likely to have a perfect Christmas is James Dobson of the Family Research Council which the Southern Poverty Law Center just added to their official list of hate groups. Talk about getting a stocking full of coal for Xmas! But a more deserving gift for them I can't think of. Naturally, Dobson is screaming "slander" and how intolerant us 'mos are of his point of view as he indignantly stamps his cloven hoof again and again.

But Dobson shouldn't feel too bad as there are some folks on his side.

I actually think this is pretty amazing and a big deal. It might just give some backbone to that "liberal" media that thinks every time a gay issue comes up for discussion, it's necessary to bring one hater or another on to espouse their bigoted point of view.

In fact, Dan Savage already called out CNN for that exact practice, saying:

There are no ‘two sides’ to the issue of LGBT rights. Right now one side is really using dehumanizing rhetoric. The Southern Poverty Law Center labels these groups as hate groups and yet the leaders of these groups, people like Tony Perkins, are welcomed onto networks like CNN to espouse hate directed at gays and lesbians. And similarly hateful people who are targeting Jews or people of color or anyone else would not be welcome to spew their bile on CNN.

While a case could be made that American society has not yet reached the same level of consensus we have when it comes to African Americans or Jewish people, I think we're far enough along that it is time to start demanding the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family be treated like the intolerant bigots they are.

After all, they'll always have a home on Fox Ersatz News.

Next page! They play a gay couple on TV and they do synchronized diving? Mein Gott!
