2007: BEST GAY YEAR EVER!

AUGUST: THEY KISSED! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THEY FINALLY KISSED
I'm not sure there's been more pent up expectation over a kiss since I was sixteen and wanted never mind, we won't go there. Point is, when Luke and Noah finally kissed on As The World Turns gay fans were about ready to burst. And why not? This was history in the making after all and fans had been very patient. That being said, the kiss was definitely worthwhile and helped propel Nuke to their status as one of the hottest couples on the soaps.

Unfortunately, come December Nuke still won't have consummated their relationship (or kissed again) and gay fans will be getting mighty restless that the Snyder farm is getting more screen time than the boys.

School might be out but that doesn't mean someone isn't getting their report cards this month. Case in point, GLAAD issued their most recent survey of the television landscape and reported gee, can you guess what's coming? that the number of gay characters was down again on broadcast television. However, the number of shows with gay men as fashion designers, interior designers, hair designers, and hair designers that are also BFF to crazy, washed up pop stars is an at all time high!

I guess that bodes well for Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming Bruno movie. But take heart as this isn't necessarily the only kind of gay image we'll ever see as this month we learned that Showtime is considering a new series called The Beard about a closeted baseball star. But he probably does do the other players' hair in the locker room. Or at least teaches them to dress better.

Proving once again that British shows are pretty much superior to American ones (at least talk shows. Oh, who am I kidding? Every kind of show!), Torchwood star John Barrowman dropped by The Friday Night Project where he proceeded to have all sorts of jokes made at his expense, got off quite a few of his own, and did bad drag. Really bad drag.

IMHO — The Year in TV

Except for one atrociously bad misstep involving a transgender character, HBO's Entourage has usually been quite good when it comes to its gay content. How so? Well, Lloyd (Rex Lee), Ari's gay assistant, gets treated as badly by him as does everyone else. This year we also saw just how far Ari was willing to go for Lloyd (pretty far!) and Lloyd even got a boyfriend. Sure beats the "gay" characters on ER.

There hasn't been a whole lot of gay content on Extras, but Ian McKellen's send-up of himself was pretty fantastic and George Michael certainly showed he was a good sport. On the other hand, it hardly seems like having Michael cruise a London park for sex actually qualifies as spoofing himself.

Wasn't that a touching storyline about Joe the gay bartender and his boyfriend wanting to adopt a child? Sigh... What you don't remember it? That's right, the show introduced the storyline last season and then completely dropped it with Joe not showing up a single time this season. Maybe he and Walter are off in China looking for just the right baby to match their drapes.
