2007: BEST GAY YEAR EVER!

SEPTEMBER: AT LAST! A GAY COUPLE ON THE RED CARPET!
During this year's Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon, Jerry Lewis came oh-so-close to having his own Isaiah Washington moment when telling a joke that included the words "illiterate faggot". Lewis avoided a full on pillorying by realizing how much in bad taste the joke was, cutting himself off, and apologizing the next day. He then wrote a thank you note to Isaiah for having gone first thereby showing Lewis and everyone else so inclined that insulting gay people is no longer the freebie it once was.

While T.R. Knight, Neil Patrick Harris and Ian McKellen were all shut out at this year's Emmy Awards, gay fans still found themselves treated to a breakthrough moment when Harris and his partner David Burtka strolled down the red carpet together.

The Larry Craig scandal continued to reverberate with every talk show host packing their monologues with toe tapping hilarity. Indeed, Craig jokes would still be making the rounds in December long after the expiration date for freshness had expired.

AMC's Mad Men had one of the more intriguing (if underdeveloped storylines) on television this year when Salvatore (Bryan Batt) struggled with how to deal with being gay while working in the very homophobic world of 1960's Manhattan. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes.

Perry Moore's novel Hero about a gay superhero debuted as did Sir Ian McKellen as King Lear. McKellen acquitted himself admirably in both his performance and his nude scene.

The very gay-friendly Ugly Betty returned for its sophomore season and we had interviews with Michael Urie who plays Marc and David Blue, Marc's new boyfriend Cliff. Alas, it appears the writers' strike might cause this romance to die on the vine.

IMHO — The Year in TV

Up until the camera cut away from Nuke about to kiss under the mistletoe, CBS had pretty much done everything right with the storyline. But with fans now starting petitions to demand more screen time for the duo, ATWT is seriously running the risk of turning off fans.

This isn't Bravo's best reality show by a long shot, but it not only features lesbians and gay men on the same program, but shows them as friends, not something you see a lot of on television.

I still think Dale was robbed by that mean ol' Hung! Say, now that Dale is dating Jack from Project Runway, I think Bravo should do a reality series about the two of them! Hey, if people are willing to watch reality crap about Scott Baio, Flavor Flav, and that really annoying Brady Bunch brother, they'll watch anything!
