Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (February 22, 2008)

FORGET THE OSCARS. THE REAL GAY ACTION IS AT THE RAZZIES
It's no secret that a lot of gay men just aren't as into the Oscars this year as in year's past. Some of us 'mos are still ticked about Brokeback Mountain's loss two years ago. Others just aren't enthused about the movies that are nominated or worry that, what with all the media nitpickers harshly judging the dresses, we'll never see Cher-worthy fashions ever again.

Well, don't despair because there is one award ceremony this weekend that does feature a "gay" movie with "gay" roles. Saturday night delivers us the 28th Annual Razzie Awards, and the movie AfterElton readers voted as the worst of the year I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry — is up for Worst Picture. See, it's not all bad!

Jessica Biel, Adam Sandler, Kevin James

Not only is C&L up for Worst Movie, but it snagged seven other nods including Worst Actor (Adam Sandler), Worst Supporting Actor (Kevin James), Worst Supporting Actress (Jessica Biel) and Worst Screen Couple (Sandler and James, and Sandler and Biel).

This almost makes up for the $180 million it took in at the box office. Hey, I said almost.

$17,000 FOR DAVID HYDE PIECE AND CLAY AIKEN? WELL, OKAY
Last Sunday, out actor Bryan Batt (Mad Men) hosted Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS annual Broadway Bears fundraiser which raised $127,000 for the worthy organization.

The event raises money by auctioning off teddy bears dressed as famous Broadway character such as Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Elphaba from Wicked. (Alas, there was no Edna Turnblad from Hairspray, who is already halfway to teddy bear as it is!). Most are then autographed by the stars who (mostly) wore the same costumes for the shows.

So which bear snagged the most moola? It was Sir Robin Spamalot signed by David Hyde Pierce and Clay Aiken, and the winning bid was $17,000. I'm just trying to wrap my mind around who wanted this bear so badly. Kinda scary....

Anyway, here is Sir Robin Spamalot. Look out G.I. Joe!

And here are some of the other bears from left to right: Angela Arden from Die! Mommie, Die! signed by Charles Busch, Moritz from Spring Awakening signed by Tom Hulce and Duncan Sheik, Chip from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and the Centaur from Xanadu signed by Cheyenne Jackson and Kerry Butler. BTW, I can only dream that Cheyenne had worn the Centaur costume!

You can see all the bears here.
