Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (April 4, 2008)

FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
No wide releases this week, but for those in Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and San Diego eagerly waiting you chance to see Shelter, your time is here as the movie opens in your towns this week.

As for wide release, I'm afraid there's nothing specifically gay, but perhaps out director Carter Smith (Bugcrush) will bring something of a gay sensibility to The Ruins, a horror novel adapted from the novel of the same name. I read the book and, alas, there was nothing gay in it, nor was I particularly wild about it. It got off to a terrifically creepy start, but ultimatelly felt like it had nowhere to go. At least it's got Shawn Ashmore (below, right) and Jonathan Tucker (below, left) to look at.

Also opening is Leatherheads with George Clooney (Michael Clayton) and John Krasinski (The Office) as well as Jodie Foster's children's movie Nim's Island. I haven't seen it, but I don't think she blows the bad guys away with a gun in this one.

On Friday night, here! has new episodes of Cover Guy and The Ben and Dave Show. The N has the Degrassi Spring Break Movie with the out Marco and there is also a new episode of Your Mama Don't Dance on Lifetime where we're down to our final gay!

Saturday night we have a new Color Splash with David Bromstad and, of course, a new Torchwood. I'm happy to report this week's episode is much, much better and involves someone getting much older in a very short period of time.

No, it's not Gwen so don't get your hopes up. Speaking of Gwen, I cannot frakkin' believe BBC America's "Which Torchwood Character Are You" feature pegged me as Gwen. It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

Speaking of Gwen, the episode involves some decent science fiction involving the workings of the rift. Naturally, a certain character has to go poking their nose where it doesn't belong, jump to certain conclusions that turn out to be completely unwarranted, and in general be a nuisance. Gee, who could that be!

Monday is a new Greek, and Calvin is again featured fairly prominently — and without having to give a kidney to a straight guy! Logo (AfterElton.com's parent company) airs the final episode of the Big Gay Sketch Show's second season. The Vegan Cooking Show is laugh outloud hilarious and Pocket Diva and Pocket Shiva weren't bad either. As always, give me more Fitzwilliam.

Tuesday CBS launches their latest reality entry Secret Talents of the Stars. Given some of the more risque things I've heard John Barrowman say, I think it would be interesting to have him on the show, but we'll have to settle for George Takei who demonstrates his Country & Western talents (anyone else just flash to Leonard Nimoy singing The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins? Shud-d-d-er!)

Also on the show is Maple Syrup or whatever the hell her name is. Personally, I'm much more interested in learning about her trainer Eric Newton of the Anti Gravity Group.

On Wednesday, Tom Filicia has a new Dress My Nest. Thursday night has the next Step It Up & Dance on Bravo while we finally get the gay chimpanzee episode on Eli Stone. The AfterElton Flying Monkey is so excited he can hardly stand it.
