Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (May 2, 2008)
AUGUST — A GAY SEX COMEDY, A GAY WRITER/DIRECTOR AND A POSSIBLE GAY CLICHE
Less gay, but certainly looking gay-friendly is the highly amusing Hamlet 2 which sort of picks up where the original Hamlet left off. You know, with Hamlet dead? Actually, it's a movie about a high school's production of their version of what happened next in Hamlet's "life". Brian already wrote about the movie's gay-friendly elements and if there isn't a gay student treading those boards, I'll eat my copy of the script for Chuck and Larry.
Out director/writer Alan Ball finally has a new movie out. It's called Towelhead and it includes out actor, Peter Macdissi, but that's as gay as it gets. You'll have to wait until fall when Ball's new vampire series True Blood debuts on HBO for something really gay from him. Finally, last and most likely least, I give you Tropic Thunder starring Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. as actors filming a war movie. The gimmick is that the actors actually have to become soldiers. Or something. I don't think I really care. This movie would've completely been off my radar if not for this promotional pic for the movie. Anyone guess what caught my attention? Can you guess which character I thought might be gay?
Hint, it's not Robert Downey, Jr., Ben Stiller, Nick Nolte, or Jack Black. That's right, it's the dude who is wearing the girly do-rag. The character's name is Alpa Chino (if that is this movie's idea of "clever," I am so going to hate it) and he is played by Brandon T. Jackson. I did some poking around and, sure enough, at one point in the movie, Chino let's it slip that he's hoping to "get some" from "Lance". Gosh, an effeminate African American character. How very clever! Because we've never seen that before. unidentified, Lonnie Henderson, Tracy Morgan from The Longest Yard
Another Gay Sequel opens August 15th, Hamlet 2 August 22nd, Towelhead August 8th and Tropic Thunder on August 15th, but you don't really care about the last one, do you? No doubt we'll learn about other movies with gay characters — some good, some bad — as the summer goes by and we'll keep you up-to-date on all of them! Submitted by on Thu, 2008-05-01 21:53. |
