Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (May 2, 2008)
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Of course, we can't let NewNowNext have all the fun, so we're going to be helping them by awarding the "Best Same-Sex Kiss Award", something right up our alley of expertise. Check back next week for the nominees and to cast your vote! And Logo will show the awards on June 7th. After you finish voting over at NewNowNext, be sure to vote to support Nuke on As the World Turns (even if you don't love it, or I'll send a flying monkey after you!). All you have to do is call 1-800-331-3774. You'll press 2 to then to be asked whether you support Luke and Noah's storyline. If you do, then you can press 1. If you don't, open the gas valve on the stove, count to twenty and light a match. What? I'm just trying to be helpful! We already mentioned that Van Hansis snagged himself an Emmy nod, but so did the out Judge David Young for his show. Here is a fun little clip of David finding out about the nomination.
Leave it to John Barrowman to say something about giving it "a good squirt of cream" and talk about "moist bottoms". John, John, John. Oh, and he flirts with James Sutton, too. (Thanks to dkellergrl2001 for the link!) And since I haven't mentioned Shelter in a while, here is a nice little musical interlude from our favorite surfer movie! BTW, you might want to study this closely because I suspect one of our nominees for "Best Same-Sex Kiss" just might come from this. Finally, yesterday we launched our annual AfterElton.com Hot 100 list that let's you — our gay and bisexual male readers — declare who you think are the hottest 100 men on the planet.
Last year you chose Jake Gyllenhaal as your favorite man. Will he repeat or will you choose someone else? And might that be a gay man this time around? I don't know, but I'm really curious to find out so be sure to go vote! The polls are open until May 16th! One final note: I want everyone who takes the time to comment on the column — positively or negatively — that I read and appreciate all of your feedback. And I do try, time permitting, to respond when asked a question or for a clarification. One question raised last week was why, whenever we mention Logo, we always add in parentheses that Logo is AfterElton.com's parent company. While we believe we are fair and objective in our treatment of all the content we cover, whether it be by here!, ABC or Logo, and are completely editorially independent from Logo and they don't influence our content, we think you deserve all the facts, including the fact that sometimes we are reviewing content provided by the folks who own us. We appreciate the trust and goodwill you place in us, and want to be as forthright with you in turn as possible. Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER! No Regret?
I've seen No Regret a couple times already. It was on Youtube about six or seven months ago and I saw it on a website about two months ago. (It's been pulled now.) I thought it was just one of those great foreign films that never comes to the US. I even tried to find a place to buy it. I am glad its coming and I highly recommend it. Its such a great movie. Great acting, great writing, great cinematography. Just great.

I am saddened by the absence of Andrew Van DeCamp on DH. I really liked his storylines before he became the good son. I liked the rebellion. He really got on Bree's nerve. When he moved out so that Bree could start a new life with Orson I was like WTF. What happened to the hell raiser? If he gets more airtime I hope the writers give him justice or at least a boyfriend.
Brideshead Revisited
While the original adaptation of Brideshead Revisited was very, very homoerotic in terms of longing glances into each other's eyes, there were no actual sexual encounters shown between Charles and Sebastian - not even a kiss. And the book never specifies that they have a sexual relationship (though you can read between the lines).
What I've heard about the new film is that the screenwriter wanted to focus on the relationship between Charles and Julia (Sebastian's sister), so there will be much less Charles/Sebastian screentime than in the original. Which sucks - but at the same time I suppose there is the possibility they will at least be more upfront in dealing with the Charles/Sebastian friendship while it's going on. I don't know, though.
Re Criminal Minds:
"The killer turns out to be a young man whose father is so homophobic that the poor fellow developed a variation of a split personality disorder where, since he hates himself so much for being gay, he takes on the personalities of men he kills in order to feel better about himself."
Um, wasn't that made in the 80s and called 'Cruising'? Starring Alpa Chino, no less. Way to be really original, Criminal Minds.
I must be confusing my
You might be thinking of "Another Country"
Brideshead Revisited
That's what it is! I guess to my younger

Criminal Minds REALLY offended me

You Don't Mess With the Zohan
I`ve seen some promo clip a while back,it`s just....the way Adam Sandler talks, his accent REALLY bugs me,get on my nerves.I just don`t think I can sit through the whole thing with him speaking like that. The only reason I might wanna check it out is all because of my girl Mariah Carey which plays herself in it for maybe a few minutes.Guess I`ll wait for other people`s opinion on it.
btw,I`m really looking forward to Mamma Mia The Movie.Although not a big fan of ABBA,love love love Ms. Meryl Streep!!!And Colin Firth playing gay role?Big Plus!

Well, okay. Let's forget it.

Gay Birmingham?
I would be interested to know what gay activists in Birmingham had to say. Sites exist for Gay Bham and Central Alabama Pride, but there doesn't seem to be a local publication.

Appealing vampires
I've been wondering if many people here were watching "Moonlight"---I've rather been enjoying the show. Of course, it doesn't hurt that lead actor Alex O'Loughlin makes a very hot vampire. And I did find that same-sex bite last week oddly and weirdly appealing---ha!
Oh, David Blue (the gay photographer on "Ugly Betty") plays another vampire on the show, incidentally...
I'm like a superhero, with no powers or motivation...
Wrong name
Thanks for the catch!
Tropic Thunder
Actually, Brandon T. Jackson is the name
Vampires
Yes I saw the scene on Moonlight, thought it was completely haaawt. They didnt shy away from anything, so that was good.
I was commenting that this show is increasing the hunk factor. Of course the dreamy Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Dohring, but now Eric Winters seems to have been added to the cast and now gay fav David Blue is a blood sucker too.
Alex O'Loughlin was voted sexiest man in Sci Fi recently, he certainly made my Top 10.
Thanks for the info on the HBO show, Ill keep on top of that. Im a sucker for this type of content, no pun intended.
Too bad about Brideshead, the original was kept quite true to the novel, all the right nuances where there to make the logical conclusion. But that was easier because it was a series and not a movie.
Can't Wait To Watch
Brideshead Revisited
Saw the trailer for it on Apple.com/trailers. Must say looks like good fun.
Don't trouble yourself Doctor -- I'm a celebrity, I'll write my own prescription.
