News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (May 30, 2008)

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) lived out many a gay man’s dream, not only having a fling with a writer played by Justin Theroux, but getting to chummy up with Valerie Harper, a.k.a. Rhoda Morgenstern herself, who played his extraordinary maven of a mom. The only problem was that Justin was a bit too quick on the release in the bedroom and she wound up dumping him. Personally, given it was Justin Theroux, I’d have been only too happy to let him come and go on whatever schedule he wanted.

Blair Underwood appeared in a multiple-episode arc as a neighbor/loverboy for Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and IMO, a little Blair Underwood makes any TV show a whole lot better. And that’s a good thing, given he seems to manage to show up in just about every TV show around, including simultaneous stints this year on both In Treatment and Dirty Sexy Money.

It makes sense that Dan Futterman, an actor with such gay-friendly credentials as The Birdcage, Urbania, a memorable guest-stint on Will & Grace, as well as penning Capote would appear as a “gay-straight man” whose Chelsea address, knowledge of women’s fashion, and overall tidiness confused Charlotte as to his team loyalties.
