News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (September 14, 2007)

Elaine Stritch isn't gay, but she is a gay favorite and I'm happy to report the old broad (her words!) won Outstanding Guest Actress on a Comedy Series for her stint on 30 Rock. As far as I know she did not tell Jesus or any other deity to "suck it."

One of the other awards handed out at the awards last Saturday was the one for Outstanding Guest Actor on a Comedy Series and ***SPOILER ALERT***

Ian McKellen did not win which makes this his third loss. Pooh on that, says I! Ian lost to that conniving Stanley Tucci (who, in fairness, has played gay plenty of times himself). We love you just the same, Ian! Here is the very funny performance submitted to the Emmy judges that got Ian the nomination. In it he plays a rather addled version of himself to hilarious effect.

As long as I'm showing some clips actors submitted for consideration, I figured I'd post both T.R.'s and Neil's as well.

T.R. plays George O'Malley on Grey's Anatomy and in this scene from "Six Days, Part 1 & 2’" he gets to emote a lot.

Meanwhile, Neil submitted "Showdown" from the episode where his character, Barney Stinson, appears on The Price is Right because he's convinced Bob Barker is his father and wants to tell him the big news.

It would be great to see either actor win, but my heart tells me they won't. (And so does AE reader Wayman who haunts the message boards where the folks who are obsessed with this stuff are speculating relentlessly.) My guess is that Rainn Wilson (The Office) will win the comedy Emmy and Masi Oka (Heroes) will win the dramatic Emmy — even though I had the AfterElton crack team of Flying Monkeys stuffing the ballot box! Oh, well.

Finally, the fellas who play two of our favorite gay roles weren't nominated, but they did attend Saturday night's festivities. Right now Rex Lee (Lloyd on Entourage) doesn't have a part big enough to get him an Emmy nod, but he sure as heck is a scene stealer.

If Michael Urie (Marc St. James on Ugly Betty) doesn't end up with an Emmy nod before the show ends I'll eat a Flying Monkey.

I'm not certain what he's saying, but I think he's telling Buddha to "get lost".
