Best. Gay. Week. Ever. (September 28, 2007)FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE! Okay, there is still nothing gay, but The Kingdom features both Jamie Foxx and Kyle Chandler who are very easy on the eyes, not to mention Jennifer Garner who a lot of gay boys (me included) dig from her Alias days. The Darjeeling Limited starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzmann was actually up for the Queer Lion at Venice, though I can't really see why. Still, Owen, Adrien, and Jason are also easy on the eyes. Game Plan looks utterly dreadful, but it stars The Rock and Ang Lee's latest, Lust, Caution opens in limited release. (Ditto Darjeeling. Sorry!) On DVD The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer featuring AfterElton Hot 100 hottie Chris Evans is out on Tuesday along with the considerably racier Caligula. ***UGLY BETTY, SURVIVOR: CHINA SPOILER ALERTS*** Season 2 of Ugly Betty kicked off last night and I raved about the first episode on the blog yesterday. Even though Entertainment Weekly apparently suffered a brain aneurysm and only gave it a B, I thought it one of the best hours of TV I've seen in a long while. Marc doing Wilhelmina drag? Priceless! And the Hilda/Santos storyline was fantastically well-done. The way shows veers between whacking your funny bone and pulling on your heartstrings amazes me. And episode two is almost as good. And since you can't ever get enough Betty, be sure to check out our recap of the first ep! Todd survived another week on Survivor and showed himself to be a cagey competitor. Check out Josh and Jon's "Surviving Gaycap" vlog on Monday. Saturday night is a brand new Torchwood. This is the last episode of this season that I've seen ahead of time and everyone who has seen the rest of the season swears things really take off from here. And don't forget our Torchwood recaps! And if you haven't started watching our Torchwood vlog with Michael and Meredith, now is your chance! Sunday brings us Season 4 of Desperate Housewives and while the new gay couple doesn't reportedly move in until episode four, the ladies of Wisteria Lane are in fine form. Like Ugly Betty, DH does a good job of moving between outrageously funny and touching. I found the first ep to be best when it focused on the relationships between Gabby, Bree, Lynette, and Susan. The new mystery — involving Dana Delaey and Nathan Fillion — could be good or could be bad. We'll have to see. Brothers & Sisters is finally back and I'm happy to report that all of the show's trademark touches are intact. Hot kiss between Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and Jason (Eric Winter)? Check. (And I do mean hot! And a shower scene!) Uncle Saul getting a little visit from the Ghost of Gay Past? Check! (And check out our brand new interview with Ron Rifkin). Big Walker family blow-out? Check! So it's the B&S you've come to know and love. Of course, what you guys really want to know about is what's going down between Kevin and Jason as everyone knows Eric is also starring over on CBS' Viva Laughlin. Looks Berlanti and company are handling things by ***** having ** **** *** to ******** for a ******* but Kevin ******** to **** for ***. But we know how often that works out. Check back on Tuesday for Dennis' recap of the whole thing! Neil Patrick Harris' How I Met Your Mother didn't do so hot in the ratings so I'm worried. There's a new ep on Monday night and Enrique Iglesias is in it again. Dale rocked last week's Top Chef, winning the elimination challenge and sailing in to the final three which airs Wednesday. The final finale is this Wednesday and while the cooking portion isn't live, the judging will be. We're planning something a little special for it. First, we'll have an interview with Dale on Wednesday and then our Top Chef recapper Steven Frank will liveblog the whole thing. It's like he's facing his very own Top Recapper challenge and you folks can judge him live! I'll be in New York next week so if you live there or will happen to be in the Big Apple and would like to demand a refund for this week's column in person, why not join us and the rest of the AfterElton.com staff for a get together on Wednesday evening? Finally, I leave you with this week's "Two Gay Guys" vlog wherein Brent and I show what total Now I'll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER! Submitted by on Fri, 2007-09-28 00:09. |

Kudos to Jack
Sleuth
"Sleuth" actually received "honorable mention" for the Queer Lion at Venice.
And what's up with Jude Law's comb-over in that poster ???
And I agree with you on EW's grade on "Ugly Betty". They always seem to want to trash the shows they gush over the year before. Watch, "Heroes" will be next.

Michael comes through again.
(LOL)Thanks for the triple reference of my previous questions and comments, and calling me discerning.I would presume to call you witty. Now about the origin of the site, just so i'm clear, Sarah created it, but you took it over?Did someone from LOGO just call you up one day, and said "hey, we want to buy your site"?What were you doing before you AfterElton?
I'm trying to get into Torchwood, but it just hasn't been love at first sight like it is with some shows for me.My interest in Desperate housewives has a waned a bit over the years.I like the acting, writing, all of the actors and actresses, and how supportive they've been of our issues, and all of that. It's because of Marc Cherry.Don't get me wrong. He's clearly talented, and seems good at what he does.....except when it comes to gay characters.I know every gay character doesn't have to be a saint.
It would be boring if that were the case.I like gay villan, or evil gay character every now and then as long as they're written and portrayed well, and there are some gay heroes(I'll get to Heroes in a minute) to balance it out.I actually liked Andrew, but the fact that he was so pushed aside for the most part last season after appearantly doing a total 180 from being this wild child combined with some of the other gay characters to come from Mr. Cherry kind of bothers me.I try to be forgiving about these things, but let us not forget, as forgetable as it was, the trainwreck that was Some of my best friends are.I'm a little worried about what he's going to do next.
He's made these vague comments about what they're doing with andrew this season, saying he might be exploring his sexuality with lasting consiquenses, or something, leading some to speculate that he might get a girl pregnant. If that happens, it's really going to turn me off.Heroes, which had it's season premier this week, is another show that botched an attempt at a gay character.I wasn't that upset over it because to me it just yet another marginalized background gay character who came in every few episodes. Now if he had been one of the heroes then I would've been pissed.Ofcourse that'll never happen because then they would be giving us a powerful lead gay character on netwotk TV, and we just can't have that.
I'm excited about Brothers & sisters.I can't wait until the premier.I'm interested to see what's going to happen with Saul.I wish Eric Winter wasn't leaving the show because I probably like Jason a little more than Scotty, but either one Kevin ends up with is fine.Michael mentioned a shower scene.I'm all over that!
I try to be the first one to comment on this column every week, but oh well.....next week.I'm thinking of changing my avatar to keep it fresh and new.
Getting into Torchwood
I think I know what you mean about it taking time to get into Torchwood. I don't know if you've ever seen Captain Jack in Doctor Who but the Jack in Torchwood appears much darker. He recently popped up again in the latest series of Doctor Who and was back to his original self. Hopefully, we'll see more of the 'old' Jack in series two of Torchwood.
If you do make it to the end of Torchwood, I'd be interested to know what you think of the finale. It may be a case of love it or hate it...
Yep, Sarah started it and I became
editor six months later while Sarah remained the publisher, i.e. my boss! As for Logo acquiring us and AfterEllen, I don't know how that worked except one day I got a call from Sarah saying "Guess what!"
Before becoming editor I was a novelist, publishing two historical books based on Johnny Appleseed. The first was Frontiers and the sequel is Firelands. Brent was also writing books at the same time, but publishing ain't the way to get rich. In order to keep us afloat, Brent wrote articles and did various other things while I worked as a flight attendant. Like I said in the column, from here on out my plans include world domination. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on how that goes!
Torchwood, and your avatar
I must be unique because I've been hooked on Torchwood since I first saw it. But then, I'm not much of a TV critic. And ok...I think John Barrowman is one of the sexiest men walking the planet. So much for being a true Sci-fi critic.
As for your Avatar Homoguy, I think it rocks and is pretty damn sexy for an avatar. The next one has big shoes to fill! :)

Highlight Of My Week
Love this column!
Thanks to everyone for all the kind words. It actually is a ton
I've seen the new "Sleuth"
Please tell me
Return to Form?
I think Christian and Rami are gay.
Jack is smart, successful, generous, fit and an atheist. What more can you ask for? I'm not going to get behind anyone yet. I did that before and the contestants that I picked flamed out. Gauging the reaction from the net, Jack is the most popular so far.
I'm excited for this new season. I think it will be a return to form after the negativity that happened in the third season.
Awesome job as usual, Michael
