Jesus Camp's Haggard Cameo

Ted HaggardThe documentary Jesus Camp is still playing in theaters in limited release and may get a box office boost now that its distributors can play up its connection to Ted Haggard. For those unfamiliar with the film, the documentary follows a group of young children to the "Kids on Fire" summer camp, where they are taught to become "dedicated Christian soldiers in God's army" and are "schooled in how to take back America for Christ." The film includes a scene in which recently disgraced Pastor Ted Haggard preaches against homosexuality. The distributors initially hoped the film might appeal to both liberal and fundamentalist Christian audiences. (Conservative christians would be heartened by it and liberals would find it disturbing.) Unfortunately, their red state marketing plans got thrown a monkey wrench when Ted Haggard grew concerned that the documentary showed evangelicals in an unflattering light and publicly called for Christians to boycott the film.
